State Bank of India FasTag/ SBI FasTag

The FasTag is an electronic toll collection system introduced in India way back in 2014. It was set up as a key project in the Golden Quadrilateral project between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Initially, it was rolled out as a pilot project in 2014, its ease of payment and no stoppage of the vehicle on the toll plazas prompted the expansion of the FASTag system across the length and breadth of the country. Later, it was implemented on the Delhi to Mumbai Quadrilateral on November 4, 2014.

By 2015 July, toll plazas situated between the Chennai and Bangalore stretch of the Golden Quadrilateral started to accept the FASTag payment mechanism. As of November 2016, the 347 toll fee plazas out of the 366 on highways across the country have started to accept payments via FasTag.

On October 2017, the NHAI launched the FASTag lane in all its 370 toll plazas which comes under its ambit.

What is State Bank of India FasTag/ SBI FasTag?

The SBI FasTag is a device which helps in making toll payments directly from the prepaid or savings account linked to it. The SBI FasTag uses Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology for its functioning. The tag affixed to the windscreen of a four-wheeler vehicle will enable the users to drive through the toll plazas easily without having to stop the vehicle for cash transactions. The SBI FasTag can be purchased from any of the State Bank of India branches spread across the country.

SBI FasTag is a 10X5 cm, rectangle shape, multi-layered tag. It is made from good quality paper, containing an antenna and chip inside its layers. Once the FasTag is attested on the windscreen of the vehicle that passes through the toll plazas, the information will be read at the toll plaza using the radio frequency identification method from the tag.

How SBI Fastag Works?

The SBI FasTag consists of a technology which deducts the toll charges from a prepaid account and is linked to it using Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology. The device will be attached to the front side of the four-wheeler vehicle’s windshield and the toll fee is collected electronically by the tag reader at the toll plazas when the vehicle passes through the FasTag Lanes.
