The initiation has taken up by the government of India to provide a unique universal identification number to each Indian citizen is gradually bearing the fruits of benefits. The requirement of Aadhaar is a must for availing government subsidies under various schemes. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has taken up an initiation drive for an easy and hassle-free process to link aadhaar with driving license of individuals.
As of now, individuals can link their driving license with Aadhaar card via online mode.
Usually driving license in India is issued by the respective State and Union Territories Road Transport Departments. The following is the list of steps to link aadhaar with driving license.
Step 1: Visit the State or Union Territories Road Transport Department’s web portal.
Step 2: Look out for the option ‘Link Aadhaar’
Step 3: Now look out for the ‘Driving License’ option from the drop-down menu
Step 4: Enter your driving license number proceed further and click on the option ‘Get Details’.
Step 5: Verify the details of your driving license.
Step 6: Now enter your 12 digits unique Aadhaar Card Number
Step 7: Enter your mobile number which is registered with Aadhaar and click on ‘Submit’ button.
Step 8: You will receive an OTP on your phone.
Step 9: Proceeding further, enter the OTP to complete the process of linking aadhaar with driving license.
Over the past few years, the government of India has come across various instances wherein a single individual has more than one driving license. As per the rules framed by the Road Transport Department, a person cannot possess more than one driving license. The driving license issued in one state is valid across all the other states and Union Territories in India and hence there is no need to have multiple driving licenses.
To curb the annoyance, the central government of India is planning to link aadhaar card with driving license. Postdeadline, those licenses which are not linked with aadhaar will be deactivated, as only one driving license can be linked with aadhaar. With this, the issue of duplicate licenses can be checked easily.
If in case, if a person holds multiple driving licenses, then the same can be surrendered at a regional office of the Road Transport Department.
As the government of India has started a drive to link aadhaar with many other important documents to check fraudulent activities, linking aadhaar number with the driving license is a step to curb holding more than one driving license. The road transport laws in India clearly states that no one should hold more than one driving license and registering more than one driving license per individual is an offence. In India, the driving license which is issued in one state holds validity in every other state and Union Territory across the country.
If in case, individuals are holding more than one driving license, then the same can be voluntarily surrendered at the regional Road Transport Departments. The government is planning to expedite the linking process of Aadhaar with a driving license which will be introduced after the finalization of the legal provisions by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. Post enforcement, the process will help to track down fake and multiple driving licenses – holders.
