The government of India has promoted a drive to link the Aadhaar number with the mobile phone number.Following the government’s initiative, many telecom operators across the country are notifying their respective subscribers to link their phone numbers with their respective Aadhaar number.

How to do Aadhaar Card Link to Mobile Number?

The seeding of Aadhaar with mobile number has been made mandatory by the government of India. An individual can get the linking of aadhaar card number with their mobile number done either by themselves or can take the help of the telecom operators. It is a very easy and simple process to link aadhaar with mobile number. 

To help the customers, many telecom operators are providing door step services to complete the re-verification especially for the senior citizens, differently abled individuals and for chronically ill people across the country. Iris scanning devices are also deployed at the service centres for conducting the linking process in a smooth way.

There are many ways through which an individual can link their Aadhaar with mobile linking. They are One Time Password (OTP), Agent Assisted Authentication, IVRS facility, SMS Based linking.

One Time Password (OTP)

The telecom operators across the country are providing their users with an option to request for OTP on their mobile phones.

The OTP based method is useful to verify the mobile phones and this can be done either by visiting the telecom operator’s website or by visiting the nearest store. In both cases, the subscriber will receive an OTP on the mobile number.

The following are the steps for linking mobile number with Aadhaar

Step 1: Visit your respective telecom operator’s web portal.
Step 2: Enter your mobile number that is to be linked to the Aadhaar number.
Step 3: Your telecom operator will send an OTP to your registered mobile number.
Step 4: Enter the OTP and click the submit button to proceed further
Step 5: A message will be displayed on the screen, which will seek your permission to proceed further. Enter your 12 digit Aadhaar number carefully that is to be linked.
Step 6: Your telecom operator will send a request to the UIDAI for OTP generation.
Step 7: You will receive a consent message from the UIDAI about the e-KYC details. Go through it thoroughly and verify it once before proceeding further.
Step 8: Select the option Accept all terms and conditions and enter the OTP.
Step 9: After this, you will receive a confirmation message about linking your Aadhaar and phone number for re-verification.

Agent Assisted Authentication

In the case of agent-assisted authentication, the telecom operators are strictly instructed not to disclose any of the KYC details of the customers to the agents. It is one of the easy and secure methods to link aadhaar with mobile number. The subscriber’s valuable details are not stored in the agent’s devices. This method can also be used for verification of SIM and insurance verification.

Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS)

The interactive voice response system is basically and specially designed application which is used for the Aadhaar verification. It is an easy and user convenient app which will help to link users mobile numbers with Aadhaar number.

The government of India has helped all the telecom subscribers to come up with a single number for linking Aadhaar with SIM cards using IVRS. Both pre-paid and postpaid customers will have to follow the below-mentioned methods to link mobile number with Aadhaar.

Step 1: Enter toll-free number 14546 from your mobile number.
Step 2: The IVR system will verify if you are a resident of India or a Non-Resident Indian. If you are a resident Indian then press 1 to confirm and proceed further.
Step 3: The IVRS will now ask you to share your 12-digit Aadhaar number.


Step 4: The system will then repeat the last four digit of the Aadhaar number. One should follow this carefully to avoid any discrepancies at a later stage, proceed further and press 1 to confirm.
Step 5: The IVRS will ask you to provide your registered mobile number, following this the UIDAI will send an OTP to the mobile number.
Step 6: A consent message will get played on your phone on the IVR which will ask you to permit the telecom operator to use your name, photo and date of birth as mentioned in the UIDAI database, proceed and confirm it.
Step 7: Enter the OTP correctly.
Step 8: After entering the OTP, press 1 to complete the mobile number and Aadhaar re-verification procedure.

SMS based Aadhaar card linking and SIM Card Verification using OTP

Find the below mentioned steps with the help of a subscriber and link the Aadhaar number to your SIM card:

Step 1: Visit the nearest telecom operator.
Step 2: Request the executive for linking mobile number with Aadhaar card.
Step 3: Submit your Aadhaar card details (number) and mobile number which has to be linked to the executive.
Step 4: Using the re-verification application, the store executive will provide a 4 digit verification code which will be the OTP for the mobile number.
Step 5: You will have to submit the OTP to the store executive and provide the biometric details.


Step 6: You will receive an SMS after 24 hours, reply by typing “Y” and this will complete the e-KYC procedure thereby linking your Aadhaar number with mobile number.

Steps to Register Mobile Number with Aadhaar Card

You can register your mobile number with Aadhaar card by following the below-mentioned steps:

Step 1: Go to Aadhaar Enrollment or Update Centre
Step 2: Fill in the Aadhaar Correction Form


Step 3: Specify your current mobile number(which needs to be updated in Aadhaar)
Step 4: Submit the form and also provide your Biometrics for authentication purpose
Step 5: The Acknowledgement slip (which contains URN-Update Request Number, which is used to track the status of Aadhaar Updation) will be handed over to you by the executive
Step 6: After this, you will be able to get the OTP on your registered mobile number to avail aadhaar related services.

1. There is no need to get another Aadhaar card after you update your mobile number with Aadhaar.
2. One can check the Aadhaar update status by calling UIDAI' s toll-free number 1947.

Fee for Registering Mobile Number in Aadhaar Card

The fees for registering or updating the mobile number in Aadhaar card is Rs.

25. An individiual has to pay Rs.25 every time to avail the service of registering or updating the mobile number in Aadhaar Enrollment Center. If in case, multiple details need to be updated, then no additional fee will be charged from the applicant.

Need for Registering mobile number in Aadhaar Card

1. After registering your mobile number with Aadhaar, an OTP is sent to your registered mobile number. That OTP should be provided to get services, as OTP is considered to be safe.
2. One can also avail all online services related to Aadhaar if you have registered your mobile number with UIDAI.
3. To download your Aadhaar online, you have to provide OTP which is sent to your mobile number which has to be registered with Aadhaar.
4. One can download the mAadhaar app and carry the Aadhaar in your phone if the mobile number is registered with Aadhaar.

Necessary documents for registering mobile number in Aadhaar Card

1. The applicant need not submit any of the documents for registering the mobile number in Aadhaar.
2. The only thing that an applicant has to submit is Aadhaar Update Form, which contains your present mobile number. You have to submit the Aadhaar Update Form along with a nominal fee.

A few benefits of linking an Aadhaar card with a mobile number are as follows:  

  • To use the online Self Service Update Portal (SSUP) for updating, one’s mobile number should be linked with the Aadhaar card.   
  • To avail of several aadhaar-related facilities, one’s aadhaar card should be linked with a mobile number. OTPs will be sent to the registered mobile number which should be provided to avail different aadhaar-related services. These OTPs will help the user to add a layer of security to the Aadhaar card. The user will not be able to avail of any of these services if their mobile number is not linked with an Aadhaar card.  
  • The mAadhaar app allows the user to carry their aadhaar on their phone to avail various aadhaar-related services using the mobile phone. Do note, that the user can use the mAadhaar app only when the mobile number is registered with aadhaar.   
  • To download the aadhaar card online, one must provide the OTP sent to the registered mobile number.
