The structure of modern trade is highly complex as nations are interdependent on each other for raw materials, investments, finished goods, and much more. There are comparably multiple aspects having a directional push on international LPG demand, which have direct effect on the fuel prices at domestic levels. Sometimes crude oil exporting countries might face geopolitical issues or war situations, leading to an unstable condition for timely trade deliveries. The delay or supply disruption causes financial markets and commodity segments as well to crumble. The higher demand of crude oil at international market, tends to result in exponential spike in fuel rates in India due to multiple factors that are trade-related. Once the demand globally is increased with cost of physical crude oil rising, India LPG rates, along with other fuel would also follow the trend with appropriate hikes. However, the government of the country holds a tight grip over fuel prices in Bihar and other parts today, as the fuel prices have direct impact on LPG prices in Bihar and other states. LPG prices in Bihar today are determined by the state and central government, which maintains the price-supply ratio by wither increasing or decreasing tax collection from LPG rates in Bihar today. Hence a lower taxation, during election season, despite increasing crude oil prices at international level can ensure LPG gold rates in Bihar today to stay lower for benefiting the local population.
Bihar is one of the northern states, which for multiple reasons in the past have remained amongst the lowest earning or the poorest state of the country. The presence of large population, however makes its a significant state for the central government to determine LPG rates in Bihar today for gaining attention of the residents.
The villages, cities and towns, residing poor farmers in the nearby areas require immense LPG connections for daily food consumption. The government takes appropriate and non-solving measures over the years to curb the burden of LPG prices in Bihar today.
However, the election season this year for declaring the next prime minister of the country, the current ruling party have taken almost all traditional methods such as increasing subsidies, increasing ration allotment, farmer payments under Kisan yojana, fuel rates and Bihar LPG prices today in the state to ensure voters remember the slightly offered relief in expenses by the favorable government of the country. Bihar LPG rates today might not follow the international trend, as the government have tight regulations and control for such essentials. Hence, despite rise in raw material, international crude oil prices can still be unaffected for LPG prices in Bihar today. Considering the same government winning this election, LPG rates in Bihar might take a reversal for upward trend once the election fever fades away. Moreover, if the fragile and weak chances of economic development in the state remains ahead, then LPG rates in Bihar today are expected to remain stable, as residents would not be reluctant to switch away with burning wood for cooking purposes.
Bihar is located on the northern border of India. It is one of most importance places of north India having strong tourist attraction and cultural activities. The presence of millions of residents here indicate the demand for fuel and natural gas in Bihar to be stable. Along with robust agricultural activities, the region is also good for cash crop agriculture cultivation of rice, pulses, cotton, sugar cane and other spices.
Being among the poorest states of India, Bihar has some of the highest dependency on government subsidies and services.
The low circulation of income in the region and less economic activities compared to other states, Bihar LPG rates today plays a significant role for the daily expenses of the locals. The state and central government has a tight grip over LPG prices in Bihar today along with other major states.
Hence, despite an uncertain international market condition can push for crude oil rates to spike, but Bihar LPG prices today would remain stable and unchanged. If the government treasury takes consistent hit by increasing crude oil rates globally, then a slight increase in LPG taxation is evident, uplifting the Bihar LPG rates today. However, considering the current election season and promises made by the political parties, indicate that LPG prices in Bihar 2024 are expected to remain lower currently.
Many households in Bihar rely on LPG for cooking, and this price rise is expected to impact their monthly expenses significantly. The increase comes at a time when many families are already dealing with financial challenges due to the ongoing economic situation.
Consumers have expressed their concerns about the rising costs. One resident from Patna said, "The continuous increase in LPG prices is making it difficult for us to manage our household expenses."
Government's Response
The government has acknowledged the issue but has not announced any immediate relief measures for consumers. Officials have stated that they are monitoring the situation closely and will take necessary steps if required.
Despite the price hike, LPG remains a crucial fuel source for many households in Bihar. The government continues to promote its use over traditional fuels like wood and coal, which are more harmful to health and the environment.
Subsidy and Financial Assistance
To mitigate the impact of rising LPG prices, the government provides subsidies to eligible households under various schemes.
However, many consumers feel that these subsidies are not sufficient to offset the increasing costs.
A local shopkeeper mentioned, "Even with subsidies, we are finding it hard to cope with these frequent price hikes."
Future Outlook
The future of LPG prices remains uncertain as global oil markets continue to fluctuate. Experts suggest that unless there is a significant change in international crude oil prices or government intervention, consumers may have to brace themselves for further increases.
In conclusion, while LPG remains an essential commodity for households in Bihar, the recent price hike poses additional financial burdens on consumers already struggling with economic challenges. The government's response and potential future measures will be crucial in addressing these concerns.
