As the birth anniversary of Lord Rama, a major god in Hinduism, the festival is marked by prayers, rituals, and festive celebrations across the islands and many other parts of india

Good Friday:

Good Friday 2025 is scheduled on 18th April and is observed as a Bank holiday In Andaman and Nicobar.

As a predominantly Christian region, the islands will commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.Churches across the islands will likely hold special Good Friday services, featuring somber hymns, prayers, and sermons reflecting on the passion of Christ. Some may also organize processions or Stations of the Cross, a traditional devotion that retraces the final hours of Jesus' life.

Muharram:

Muharram, a significant religious observance for Muslims worldwide, is also celebrated in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.This month of mourning commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Muharram is observed as a public holiday in Andaman & Nicobar.The exact date of Muharram changes each year according to the Islamic lunar calendar. Independence day: 

Independence Day, celebrated on August 15th every year, is a significant national holiday in India. Gandhi Jayanti, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, is observed with great reverence in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, just as it is throughout India. This national holiday and a major Public Holiday in Andaman & NicobarIsland, celebrated on October 2nd each year, commemorates the life and teachings of the Father of the Nation. People offer floral tributes at Gandhi statues and participate in prayer services to honor his legacy and his great work during the struggle for Independence in india.

Dussehra: 

Dussehra, a major Hindu festival celebrating the victory of good over evil, is observed with great enthusiasm and is observed as a Bank Holiday in  Andaman & Nicobar Islands. This major festival is scheduled to fall on 2nd October 2025 coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti. The festival marks the triumph of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana. Dussehra is a significant festival for the Hindu community in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.Various cultural events, such as dance performances and music recitals, are organized to celebrate the festival.

Diwali:

Diwali, on 21st October 2025 will be marked as PUblic holiday in Andaman & Nicobar. This Hindu festival marks the victory of good over evil and is celebrated to honor Lord Rama's return to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana. The hindi community on the island perform puja to deities like goddess Lakshmi and lord Ganesha to seek blessings and prosperity. Diwali is a significant festival for the diverse communities of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. It promotes unity, harmony, and the spirit of togetherness.

Christmas: 

Christmas, a major Christian celebration observed on December 25th, is a public holiday in Andaman and Nicobar Islands and is special in terms of culture and religion. With a large Christian population, particularly in the Nicobar Islands, the holidays are celebrated with tremendous excitement and zeal. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are honored by special church services, which frequently include carols and prayers.
