Diesel Price in West Bengal

West Bengal is one of the Eastern states located on the Bay of Bengal. It has an estimated population of 91 million as per the 2011 census. The state stands fourth in terms of demography in the country. The economy of the state stands at the sixth position and contributes approximately Rs 10.49 lakh crore in gross domestic product and per capita GDP stands at Rs 108,000. Most of the population in the state mainly depends on the state maintained road transport vehicles and hence the demand for diesel is more in West Bengal State.

Diesel Prices in West Bengal

The prices of diesel keep on revising on a daily basis in the state of West Bengal since the initiation of the Dual Pricing Technique to arrive at diesel prices starting from June 2017. This system was adopted to bring in more transparency in pricing fuel in India. Apart from this, the system helps to keep the prices of fuel in sync with global fuel prices which fluctuates on a daily basis. The new pricing model will pass on even the slightest change in the global market and currency exchange rate to the end uses promptly.

The revision of prices takes place every day at 6 am in the morning across all the fuel filling stations on an automatic basis. In some of the fuel stations, human intervention is required to change the fuel prices.

Tax Rate on Diesel Prices in West Bengal

The respective state governments in the country will impose a predetermined tax rate on fuel prices and it is known as the value-added tax. It usually varies from one state to another. It is a form of consumption tax implied on a product or service by the state government wherein the value is added at each and every step of the supply changing beginning from the production and concluding with the sale.

The state government of West Bengal levies 17.56% on diesel across the state and the same will is being implemented across all the fuel filling stations in the state.
