What is CNG?

CNG or Compressed Natural Gas is an eco-friendly fuel. It is a clear, odourless and non-corrosive fuel which is prepared using natural gas under pressure. Its pocket-friendly prices have attracted the users of petrol and diesel to convert their vehicles into CNG-enabled ones. When compared to the traditional forms of fuel – petrol and diesel, CNG-run vehicles are more efficient.

CNG is comprised of methane gas when mixed with air and fed into the engine’s combustion chamber. On reaching the combustion chamber, this eco-friendly fuel will mix with air and get ignited by the spark following this, the energy from the explosion will help the vehicle to move.

Usually, CNG will be compressed, as this will result in providing more space for the fuel to be stored in the vehicle to the extent of driving range, like the gasoline tank fitted in a vehicle. Even though vehicles can use natural gas in either gas or liquid form, many vehicles use the gaseous form compressed to 3,000 psi (pounds per square inch).

Is CNG good for a Car’s Engine?

CNG or Compressed Natural Gas is one of the economical and cleanest fuels available for all types of the vehicle engine. It will emit less residue when compared with petrol or diesel. The CNG combustion will not emit particulate matter, unlike the traditional forms of fuel – petrol and diesel. Hence the damage done to the pipes and tubes of the engine will be less. By using CNG, the lifespan of an engine can be increased.

Is CNG safer than Petrol or Diesel?

Petrol and Diesel come in liquid forms whereas CNG comes in gaseous form. Being a gas, the CNG will dispense quicker when compared with petrol and diesel, so the chance of a fire hazard in a CNG-backed vehicle is lesser than the one which is powered by petrol and diesel.

The CNG fuel will be stuffed in a cylinder and is built more sturdily when compared with petrol or diesel tanks. Hence CNG is safer when compared to the alternative forms of fuel – petrol and diesel.
