PM Kisan 22nd Instalment Update: Truth Behind Rs. 12,000 Hike, Who Is Eligible & When Will Payment Come?
Millions of farmers are waiting for the next Rs. 2,000 payment under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana 22nd instalment. Meanwhile, there has been massive curiosity around whether the PM Kisan annual amount will be increased from Rs. 6,000 to Rs. 12,000. The central government has now answered these questions clearly in Parliament, bringing much-needed clarity to PM Kisan beneficiaries across India.

No Increase to Rs. 12,000
At present, farmers enrolled under the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana receive Rs. 6,000 per year, paid in three installments of Rs. 2,000 each directly into their bank accounts.
Recently, reports suggested that the government may double the assistance to Rs. 12,000 annually. However, responding to a query in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Ram Nath Thakur clarified that there is no proposal to increase the PM Kisan amount. As a result, the PM Kisan 22nd instalment will continue under the existing Rs. 6,000 structure.
The discussion around a PM Kisan hike began after a parliamentary committee in December 2024 recommended increasing the PM Kisan assistance to Rs. 12,000 per year to offset rising farming costs. While the recommendation raised hopes among farmers, the government has clearly stated that no decision has been taken, and the scheme remains the same for now.
The government has also clarified that Farmer ID is not compulsory for all beneficiaries. In the 14 states where farmer registration has already started, a Farmer ID is required only for new applicants. In other states, farmers can still apply for PM Kisan benefits without a Farmer ID. Importantly, existing PM Kisan beneficiaries will continue to receive instalments without any issue.
What Is PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana? Eligibility & Benefits
Launched in February 2019, the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana is one of the largest farmer welfare schemes in India. The scheme provides income support to eligible landholding farmers through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The amount is credited directly to the Aadhaar-linked bank account of the farmer.
The latest instalment, i.e., the 21st instalment of the PM-KISAN scheme, was released on Nov 20th, providing Rs. 2,000 to eligible farmers across India. A total of Rs.18,000 crore was transferred to around 9 crore beneficiaries.
PM Kisan 22nd Installment Date & Payment Status: While the official PM Kisan 22nd installment date is yet to be announced, farmers are advised to regularly check their PM Kisan payment status on the official portal. Beneficiaries should ensure that their Aadhaar seeding, bank account details, land records, and e-KYC are complete, as any mismatch can lead to delays or payment failure.
