Kotak Mahindra Bank To Increase ATM Transaction Fees Effective May 2025

From May 1, 2025, Kotak Mahindra Bank will implement new ATM transaction fees, increasing charges for both financial and non-financial transactions as per RBI directives.

From May 1, 2025, Kotak Mahindra Bank will be implementing new charges for ATM transactions, in accordance to guidelines set by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). With these changes, both financial and non-financial transactions made at ATMs, whether the machines belong to Kotak Mahindra Bank or other banks, will see an increase in fees once customers exceed the free transaction limit. This adjustment was prompted by the latest regulatory instructions from the RBI, which now mandates a fee of Rs 23 for each ATM transaction, a rise from the previous Rs 21.

The bank has informed its customers of the increased ATM transaction charges through email communication. Following the new scheme, the fee for financial transactions will be raised from Rs 21 to Rs 23 per transaction, and the charge for non-financial transactions, such as balance inquiries and mini-statements, will go up from Rs 8.50 to Rs 10. This adjustment will affect all account types and customer segments uniformly, although the existing perks related to free transaction limits will remain intact.

The Essence of ATM Transactions

Financial transactions at an ATM include a range of activities tied to a user’s bank account, such as withdrawing cash, transferring funds, bill payments, and deposits. Conversely, non-financial transactions encompass services like balance checks, mini statements, changing an ATM PIN, and requesting cheque books. Notably, the daily withdrawal limit from Kotak Mahindra Bank ATMs varies by account type; it's Rs 1,00,000 for Kotak Edge, Pro, and Ace accounts, and Rs 25,000 for Easy Pay accounts.

Customers can verify their account's withdrawal limits by consulting the terms and conditions laid out by Kotak Bank or by reaching out to customer service. Additionally, the Kotak online banking platform and mobile banking app offer options to check an account balance and review recent transactions. It's also worth mentioning that for certain debit card types, such as Kotak Edge, Kotak Pro, and Kotak Ace, it's possible to withdraw up to Rs. 50,000 in a single day from an ATM within India.

Understanding ATM and its Usage

An Automated Teller Machine (ATM) serves as a computerized tool enabling bank customers to conduct various banking transactions, such as cash withdrawal, without visiting a bank branch. This innovation offers convenience and accessibility to users, allowing for smooth financial operations outside the conventional banking hours.

As for free ATM transactions, it's important to note that Kotak Mahindra Bank customers will still have access to a predetermined number of complimentary transactions each month, as per the account variant or banking program they are enrolled in. Only transactions exceeding these complimentary allowances will be subject to the newly revised charges.

The increase in ATM transaction fees by Kotak Mahindra Bank underscores the evolving financial landscape and the bank's compliance with regulatory standards. Customers are encouraged to stay informed about these changes to manage their banking transactions effectively and avoid any unexpected fees.
