Pakistan-Balochistan Tension:

On May 14, Baloch representative Mir Yar Baloch declared the Republic of Balochistan from Pakistan. Balochistan has put three demands forth, recognition of Independence, the official embassy in Delhi, and a halt in global funding for Pakistan.

Also, Hyrbyair Marri, a Baloch pro-independence leader, said, "If Afghanistan and India want to checkmate Pakistan and its army, then they should support Balochistan's independence movement."

What Is The Conflict Between Pakistan And Balochistan:

Though Balochistan is the largest province in Pakistan by land, it's least populated and least developed despite being rich in natural resources like gas, minerals, coal and livestock among others. The Armed groups of Balochistan demand greater control of the province's natural resources and political autonomy.

Baloch separatists argue they are economically marginalised and poor compared to the rest of Pakistan. The Balochistan Liberation Army, designated as a terrorist organisation by Pakistan, the United Kingdom and the United States, is the most widely known Baloch separatist group. Since 2000 it has conducted numerous deadly attacks on Pakistani military troops, police, journalists, civilians and education institutions. Other separatist groups include Lashkar-e-Balochistan and the Balochistan Liberation United Front, as per Wikipedia.

Over the years, Baloch armed forces have attacked Pakistan, but recently the action has escalated. Earlier in March 2025, a Pakistani passenger train, Jaffer Express with 380 passengers, was hijacked by the BLA (Balochistan Liberation Army).

After India-Pakistan ceasefire, as per reports, Baloch forces have claimed to have carried 71 coordinated attacks at 51 locations of Pakistan.
