AMD Share Price Soars to All-Time High; Market Valuation Crosses $410 Billion; What’s Behind The Rally?

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is witnessing a remarkable surge in its stock price, nearing an all-time high of $253 on October 27, 2025. The rally follows a 6.5% gain on the previous Friday, contributing to a year-to-date increase of approximately 90%. The stock's momentum has been largely driven by strategic artificial intelligence (AI) partnerships that have significantly boosted investor confidence.

AMD Shares Soar Near All-Time High, Market Cap Hits $410 Billion

AMD's market capitalisation now stands at $410 billion, with trading volume reaching 1.9 million shares against a 63 million average. The company's 52-week range spans from $76.48 to $253.39, marking a record high. A pivotal AI chip supply agreement with OpenAI on October 6 triggered the initial surge, resulting in a one-day jump of 34%.

What's Driving The Rally in AMD Stock Price

The rally gained further traction following subsequent deals. On October 14, Oracle Cloud placed a significant order for AMD graphics processing units (GPUs), while IBM's quantum computing breakthrough on October 24 leveraged AMD chips, pushing shares up another 7-8%.

These developments led Bank of America to raise its 12-month price target for AMD to $300. HSBC followed with a $310 target, while Jefferies and Mizuho revised their forecasts into the high-$200s range. Analysts have largely upgraded AMD to a Buy rating, citing strong AI-driven growth potential, though some caution about the stock's high forward earnings multiple of 60x and possible overvaluation risks.

AMD vs Nvidia

While Nvidia continues to dominate the AI computing space with its proprietary CUDA software, AMD's ROCm platform is still gaining traction. However, the partnership with OpenAI is aimed at optimizing AMD chips for generative AI workloads, potentially positioning the company as a cost-effective alternative in the AI hardware market.

In Q2 2025, AMD's data centre revenue rose 14% year-over-year to $3.2 billion, compared to Nvidia's $41.1 billion, which grew 56% YoY. While AMD may not surpass Nvidia immediately, securing a larger share of the expanding data centre market could significantly enhance its growth prospects. Global data centre spending is projected to reach $3-4 trillion by 2030, providing substantial opportunity for AMD.

AMD Share Price Outlook

Based on estimates from 39 Wall Street analysts, AMD's average price target stands at $249.92, with a range of $160 to $310. The key question for investors remains whether AMD can leverage its AI momentum effectively to challenge Nvidia by 2026.

The recent stock surge marks a critical moment in the AI chip industry. If the OpenAI partnership delivers on its promise, AMD could establish itself as a formidable competitor in the AI hardware landscape in the coming years.
