AMD and OpenAI Partnership Details
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), the American semiconductor company based in Santa Clara, California, has signed a multi-billion-dollar AI chip supply agreement with OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT. As part of this deal, OpenAI will deploy up to 6 gigawatts of AMD's Instinct GPUs beginning in 2026 to power its next-generation AI infrastructure.
According to the official press release, "The first 1 gigawatt phase will start with AMD Instinct MI450 GPUs, followed by future generations of processors. The partnership will also allow OpenAI to acquire up to a 10% stake in AMD, depending on performance milestones and share-price targets. "

The two companies will work together to build and expand large-scale AI infrastructure using AMD's powerful processors. The collaboration will begin with the AMD Instinct MI450 GPU series which is a next-generation chip designed specifically for handling massive AI workloads and will later extend to future versions of AMD's AI hardware and software solutions.
