New Tranche Of Sovereign Gold Bonds Opens On July 10: All You Need To Know

The Reserve Bank of India, in consultation with Government of India, has decided to issue Sovereign Gold Bonds 2017-18 - Series II. Applications for the bond will be accepted from July 10-14, 2017.

The government will launch the next tranche of sovereign gold bond (SGB) scheme, the first in 2017-18, on July 10. The bonds will be sold through banks, Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (SHCIL), designated post offices and recognized stock exchanges namely the NSE and BSE, the finance ministry said in a statement.

The sovereign gold bond scheme was launched in November 2015 with an objective to reduce the demand for physical gold and shift a part of the domestic savings, used for the purchase of gold, into financial savings. The gold bonds to be issued by Reserve Bank India on behalf of the Government of India.
