Upcoming Ex-Dividend Dates: September 8- September 28, 2021
Dividend is a corporate action that can supplement your income and is given out by the company you hold shares in from its accumulated profits.
Dividend pay out ratio is computed by dividing dividend paid with the net earnings.
Then after we have given in a brief of the dividend, there are other important details in the slides below:
Types of dividend
There are 3 types of dividend that may be announced by the company:
1. Interim dividend: primarily it is paid out before the company's annual general meeting (AGM) and the declaration of final financial results. And is usually given or paid out during the year it is authorized by the company's board. This dividend probably accompanies the company's interim financials. Typically, it is the smaller of the 2 payments made out to the company's shareholders.
2. Final dividend: This is again a board approved dividend pay-out, which is also approved by the company's shareholders in the Annual general meeting (AGM).
3. Special dividend: This dividend is out of the regular dividend payment cycle and is chiefly a larger pay out. Typically a non-recurring, one-time payment it is higher than the standard dividend pay-out of the firm.
Important Dividend dates:
Dividend declaration date: Date of approval of dividend rate (per share) by the company's board of directors is said to be the declaration date.
Ex-dividend date: This is the cut off day usually a day before the record date when the stock trades without the value of next dividend pay-out. To be eligible for the last announced dividend, you need to buy the stock before the ex-dividend date as the trading and settlement system follows T+2 days.
Dividend Record date: This date is proposed by the board of directors to determine the shareholders who will be eligible for the dividend pay out. As per the regulation, there needs to be a minimum gap of 5 days between dividend declaration date and the record date. And hence the record date is the date by which you should be holding shares in your demat account to be eligible for the next pay out. Say for instance, BPCL has given the ex-dividend date for its upcoming dividend date as September 16, 2021, then you can actually the shares of BPCL by maximum to be eligible to receive the lucrative dividend of Rs. 58 per share.
Cum Dividend date: Last day to buy the shares in order to be eligible to receive the dividend pay-out. This is usually one business day prior to the ex-dividend date.
Dividend issue or payment date: Payment of dividend as per rules has to be completed within 30 days from its approval. And eligible shareholders usually receive the pay out before this date.
Impact of Dividend pay out on the share price
Dividend payment reduces market price of equity share by dividend with effect from ex-record date. Say for instance if the share price of a stock which declared the dividend was Rs. 10 and the dividend that it declared per share amounts to Rs. 2 per share then Ex-dividend market price of the share will be Rs. 10-2= Rs. 8

Recourse in case of non-receipt of the dividend by the eligible shareholder even by the dividend payment date
You need to immediately report the same to the RTA and the company. The RTA contact details can be known from the company's website or from the SEBI link. In case of non-satisfactory resolution from the RTA, you can raise your grievance with the SEBI SCORES portal or mobile app.
