DigiYatra's Facility Set To Expand To 6 More Airports In August; Check Full List Of Cities With DigiYatra
Ministry of Civil Aviation is set to expand the DigiYatra service to six new airports in Indian cities in a planned way in August 2023, which includes Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Guwahati cities.
"Digi Yatra facility will be launched at 6 more airports namely Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Lucknow, Jaipur, and Guwahati airports in the month of August 2023. The implementation and installation of Digi Yatra infrastructure at these airports will take place in a phased manner," the Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a press release.

This decision comes after the successful introduction of the contactless passenger processing system at seven airports, beginning on December 1, 2022, with New Delhi, Varanasi, and Bengaluru, and later expanding to Vijayawada, Pune, Hyderabad, and Kolkata.
On August 12, the Ministry of Civil Aviation launched the DigiYatra at Lucknow Airport. The Ministry tweeted, "Hassle-free flying has a new address. Transformational technology in air travel, #DigiYatra was launched at @lkoairport by Sh Rajiv Bansal, Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation. Now, passengers can go from the entrance of the airport till the security check, in minutes."
The imminent inclusion of these new airports will bring the total count of DigiYatra-enabled airports to thirteen cities. The DigiYatra service will now be available in New Delhi, Varanasi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Guwahati, Vijayawada, Pune, Hyderabad, and Kolkata. The new addition will significantly enhance the ease and efficiency of air travel for passengers across India.
Since the launch of the DigiYatra platform by Minister of Civil Aviation and Steel Shri Jyotiraditya Sindia, the platform has garnered significant traction. As per data released by the Ministry, over 3.46 million passengers had utilised the system as of August 10, 2023, with 1.29 million utilising the smartphone app. This growth indicates the Indian aviation industry's growing acceptance and adoption of this technology-driven approach.
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, in the Digi Yatra process, there is no central storage of passenger's Personally Identifiable Information (PII) data. All the passengers' data is encrypted and stored in the wallet of their smartphone. It is shared only between the passenger and the airport of travel origin, where the passenger's Digi Yatra ID needs to be validated. The data is purged from the airport's system within 24 hours of departure of the flight. The data is shared by passengers directly, only when they travel and only to the origin Airport.
