Bangalore Rural Congress Candidate DK Suresh Assets Soar 75% Ahead Of Lok Sabha Polls; Details Here

As the political arena gears up for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, the spotlight falls on the significant surge in assets declared by Congress candidate D K Suresh, who is vying for the Bangalore Rural seat. Suresh's wealth has witnessed a 75% increase over the past five years, catapulting from Rs 338.87 crore in 2019 to Rs 593.04 crore in 2024, as per the affidavits submitted by him.

A meticulous comparison between Suresh's financial declarations for the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections reveals a staggering escalation of Rs 254.17 crore in his wealth, averaging Rs 50 crore per year over the last half-decade.

Notably, Suresh shares familial ties with Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister and Congress stalwart D K Shivakumar, who disclosed assets valued at Rs 1,214 crore ahead of the state's Assembly elections in May last year. In the 2019 elections, Suresh stood out as the sole Congress MP elected from Karnataka.

Delving into the specifics of Suresh's asset portfolio, his movable assets are pegged at Rs 106.71 crore, inclusive of substantial personal loans amounting to Rs 86.37 crore dispersed to various individuals and firms. The bulk of his land holdings, totalling 72 acres and valued at approximately Rs 32.75 crore, are inherited, according to his affidavit.

Moreover, Suresh boasts ownership of 27 non-agricultural plots, predominantly located in Kanakapura and Bangalore South taluks, collectively appraised at Rs 210.47 crore. The commercial segment of his property portfolio features two malls in Bengaluru, commanding a value of Rs 211.91 crore, alongside three residential buildings valued at Rs 27.13 crore, as per his disclosures.

However, amidst this rise in assets, Suresh's liabilities have also registered a noteworthy surge, escalating from Rs 51.93 crore in 2019 to Rs 150.06 crore in 2024. Of particular interest is the revelation that Rs 57.27 crore of his liabilities, stemming from loans acquired from banks and other financial institutions, are currently embroiled in disputes, as stated in his declaration.

In the electoral battleground of Bangalore Rural, Suresh finds himself pitted against formidable opposition in the form of BJP candidate Dr C N Manjunath, who happens to be the son-in-law of former Prime Minister and JD(S) leader H D Deve Gowda.

With contrasting political pedigrees and divergent visions for the constituency, the electoral contest in Bangalore Rural promises to be a riveting spectacle, as candidates vie for the trust and mandate of the electorate.
