7 Mutual Fund Schemes That Gave Upto 376% Returns In 3-Years
To begin with we would like to clarify that the article takes into acount returns that are absolute and not annualized. In fact, the returns look solid merely because they came from a low base, thanks to the collapse of the markets 3-years ago, after Covid struck. So, the CAGR and the absolute returns look fairly abnormal. Apart from this, another important thing to note is that we have selected the best performing scheme from each mutual fund house and not necessarily the 7-best performers across all schemes. We have also taken into account absolute returns and not CAGR or annualized returns.

Schemes that gave upto 376% absolute returns over 3-years
| Name of the fund | 3-year absolute returns |
|---|---|
| Quant Small Cap Fund | 376% |
| Aditya Birla Sunlife Digital | 164% |
| Baroda BNP Paribas Midcap Fund | 126% |
| Canara Robeco Small Cap Fund | 217.23% |
| HDFC Small Cap Fund | 206% |
| ICICI Prudential Commodities | 297% |
| SBI Contra Fund | 200% |
As can be seen some of the star performers are from the small and midcap space. Here the volatility can be high, which is why investors need to tread with caution. Also, since March 2000 lows, the indices have virtually doubled, leading to significant gains for mutual fund schemes, particularly those from the mid and small cap space in a short span of 3-years. That having been said the returns are very ordinary in terms of 1-year returns, as the markets have gone nowhere. A few things that investors must also realize is that there tends to be a shift in terms of performance, in the sense that what performed well yesterday, may not do so consistently into the future.
While we do not tend to recommend mutual fund schemes, we would suggest that investors look to SIPs as markets have rallied over the last few years. A lumpsum investment has higher risks and as interest rates are rising, fixed deposits are also looking attractive all over again.
