Sensex hits new record highs
The Sensex this week hit a new record high, though it gave-up all gains later during the week. According to Gaurav Dua, Senior Vice President, Head - Capital Market Strategy, Sharekhan by BNP Paribas, "The market rally has been driven by a global surge in equity markets, with Indian equities leading the way. The liquidity injections by the US Federal Reserve and ECB to contain the banking crisis have triggered the rally. India's resilience and strong corporate earnings have outperformed most developed markets, attracting positive foreign inflows. Unlike previous rallies, there is no euphoria this time, as retail investors are cautious and have preferred to secure profits rather than chase momentum. With the Nifty consolidating in a 2000-point range and healthy corporate earnings, the rally is expected to continue in the short term, while the Indian economy's multi-year upcycle suggests healthy gains in the next 3-5 years."
