Mumbai CNG Crisis: Thousands of Mumbaikars are preparing to face another day of travel chaos and public transport disruptions on Tuesday, as the CNG supply crisis continues to strike the city. The Chembur pipeline damage caused the fuel shortage at multiple refuelling stations in Mumbai.

The crisis led to a partial shutdown of CNG-run autorickshaws, taxis, and cabs, and other public transport systems.

When Will CNG Supply Resume In Mumbai Today?

The CNG supply is likely to be resumed in Mumbai on Tuesday. The gas supply is likely to be restored by afternoon, reported CNBC TV 18 today. A spokesperson of Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL), the supplier of CNG in Mumbai, told CNBC TV 18 that they have already started the gas supply to some petrol pumps. But the pressure remains currently low; however, the situation is likely to be normalised by afternoon.

Mumbai CNG Crisis

Long queues at refuelling stations, traffic jams, and lesser availability of cabs and taxis emerged as common scenes in Mumbai on Monday. Several media reports suggest that if the gas supply doesn't resume on time, 40% of the BEST buses are likely to remain inoperable on Tuesday. GoodReturns couldn't independently confirm the development.

On Monday, the Mumbai CNG crisis disrupted supply and affected thousands of autorickshaws, taxis, and other CNG-run vehicles.

A large number of autorickshaws and taxis, including those operated by aggregators like Ola and Uber, and some buses run by public transport undertakings in the city, rely on the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) supplied by the Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL).

Ola, Uber Fare Hike Due to Mumbai CNG Crisis

Fares of Ola and Uber rides have surged significantly due to the unavailability of vehicles due to fuel shortage. Several netizens vented out their anger over the situation and shared how Mumbai CNG crisis impacted their daily lives.

"CNG shortage as pipeline burst near Chembur..disrupts gas supply in several cities including Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Issue will resolve by tomorrow.. Imagine Mumbai without Auto," shared a social media user on X.

"Left home in the morning and the empty roads honestly felt so peaceful. But then it hit me the reason it's empty is because thousands of taxis are stuck without fuel. My "peace" is someone else's struggle. Saw a 1 km long line of autos and taxis waiting just to refuel. Reality checks come unexpectedly," commented another user.

"The supply still hasn't normalised. Long queues of autos and cabs are lined up outside CNG pumps on the WEH. If this continues through the night and the supply doesn't restart(MGL is saying tomorrow noon)then Mumbai and the suburbs are basically heading towards a standstill. Our area's PNG line is not affected so no issues with cooking gas," read another user's post on X.
