Vodafone Idea AGR Due Case Supreme Court Hearing Today
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear Vodafone Idea's petition seeking the quashing of additional AGR demands raised by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for the period up to 2016-17. The case was earlier deferred from September 26 after the government sought more time to file its response-a request the telecom operator did not oppose.

At the core of the dispute is the DoT's demand of Rs 9,450 crore in additional AGR dues. Vodafone Idea has challenged the demand, arguing it exceeds the scope of the Supreme Court's previous ruling on AGR liabilities.
The government, which acquired a 49% equity stake in Vodafone Idea through the conversion of interest on dues into equity, has maintained it does not oppose the company's petition. However, it has stressed the need for a timely resolution, given its significant shareholding, although it is not listed as a promoter.
The Supreme Court, meanwhile, has emphasised the importance of bringing finality to the prolonged AGR matter that has deeply impacted India's telecom sector over the past several years.
