Vaishno Devi Yatra Postponed Again; Reopening Delayed But Book at maavaishnodevi.org for Navratri

The Vaishno Devi Yatra, initially set to start on September 14, has been delayed once more due to continuous rainfall. A spokesperson from the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board announced on X that the yatra's commencement is postponed until further notice because of ongoing rain at Bhawan and along the track. Devotees are advised to stay informed through official channels.

Heavy rains in Jammu have led to a tragic landslide, resulting in 30 deaths and several injuries after the Chenab River overflowed. The yatra had already faced a temporary suspension earlier due to adverse weather conditions. Plans for essential track maintenance and resumption were contingent upon improved weather by September 14.

Vaishno Devi Yatra Postponed Again, Previously Planned To Resume From September 14 After 17-Day Suspension

The pilgrimage had been suspended since August 26, when a devastating cloudburst struck the Trikuta hills near Katra in Reasi district, triggering massive landslides. The natural disaster claimed 34 lives and left 20 others injured, forcing the Shrine Board to halt all pilgrimage activities as a safety measure.

Vaishno Devi Shrine Maintenance and Safety Work Completed

During the suspension period, Shrine Board authorities undertook extensive repair and safety work on the tracks leading to the cave temple. The focus was on restoring damaged pathways, stabilizing landslide-prone zones, and reinforcing safety measures along the pilgrimage route.

"Most of the essential repair work has now been completed, and with weather conditions improving, we are ready to welcome devotees once again," a senior Shrine Board official said. "We thank all devotees for their patience and understanding during this difficult period."

While many had expected the official announcement to be made over the weekend, the Board confirmed the reopening ahead of schedule, allowing devotees to make timely preparations for their journey.

Guidelines for Vaishno Devi Devotees

In its latest advisory, the Shrine Board has issued detailed guidelines for all pilgrims to ensure a safe, smooth and spiritually fulfilling experience:

Valid Identification: All pilgrims must carry government-issued ID proofs during their visit.

Designated Routes: Devotees are required to use only the approved paths to the shrine, avoiding any shortcuts or restricted areas.

RFID Tracking Cards: Wearing RFID-based tracking cards is mandatory for all visitors. These cards help monitor pilgrim movement and enhance emergency response in case of unforeseen events.

Weather Precautions: Pilgrims are advised to check weather conditions prior to departure and carry suitable gear for potential rainfall or cold conditions, especially in the early mornings and late evenings.

Will Vaishno Devi Reopen in Time for Navratri 2025?

The timing of the pilgrimage's resumption is especially significant as it comes just days before Navratri, a nine-day Hindu festival celebrated in honor of the goddess Durga. The Vaishno Devi shrine, dedicated to one of her manifestations, traditionally sees a massive influx of devotees during this period.

Temple authorities expect a sharp rise in footfall starting Sunday, with security and medical teams being deployed across the track to handle the anticipated rush.

The Shrine Board reiterated its commitment to ensuring the sanctity, safety, and dignity of the pilgrimage. Together, we can ensure that this sacred journey remains peaceful and spiritually uplifting for all," the statement read.
