Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the project is progressing well, with the first phase of the high-speed corridor slated for launch in December 2027. This initial phase will cover the Surat to Bilimora section, marking the beginning of passenger operations on the bullet train network.

"The services are designed such that a train will depart every half hour during the morning and evening peak hours. Once the entire network stabilises, there will be a train every 10 minutes during peak hours," the Union Minister said.

Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Extension to Thane and Mumbai BKC by 2029 with Speeds up to 320 km/h

Following this, the next phase is expected to extend to Thane by 2028, with the final connection to Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) planned for completion in 2029. Designed to run at speeds reaching up to 320 kilometers per hour, the bullet train will be among the fastest rail services in India.

The bullet train will cover a total distance of approximately 508 kilometers, traversing through 12 strategically located stations that cater to major cities and towns along the route. In Maharashtra, key stops include Mumbai's Bandra-Kurla Complex, Thane, Virar, and Boisar.

As the train enters Gujarat, it will make stops at Vapi, Bilimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand/Nadiad, Ahmedabad and finally, Sabarmati. These stations are designed to provide passengers with a seamless and comfortable travel experience, featuring modern amenities such as dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones, bus bays for convenient intermodal transfers, ample parking facilities and well-planned pedestrian circulation areas. The infrastructure is being built to international standards, reflecting a focus on world-class passenger convenience and safety.

The 508-km route includes a significant 21-kilometer underground section stretching from Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex to Shilphata. The tunneling work, which began in May 2024, saw its first breakthrough in July this year when a 2.7-kilometer segment was completed. Since then, engineers have extended this tunnel to nearly 4.9 kilometers, achieving a continuous underground stretch essential for the route's alignment.

Alongside the tunneling progress, construction has advanced on other vital infrastructure components. To date, 321 kilometers of viaducts and 398 kilometers of piers have been completed, providing the elevated pathway for the bullet train.

Additionally, 17 river bridges and nine steel bridges have been constructed, ensuring the route crosses major water bodies and terrain obstacles seamlessly. Noise barriers have also been installed along 206 kilometers of the track to minimize sound pollution, and track bed work has been completed over the same distance.
