Terminal 2 At Delhi IGI Airport to Reopen on October 26 With 120 Daily Flights By IndiGo, Air India & More.

Delhi Airport's Terminal 2 (T2), the oldest terminal at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), is all set to reopen on October 26, 2025, after being closed for several months due to major renovation and upgrade work. The terminal was temporarily shut in April this year after Terminal 1 became fully operational.

According to Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), which is operated by GMR Group, the reopening coincides with the start of the winter schedule for airline operations.

120 Daily Flights to Resume from Delhi Airport's Terminal 2 (T2)

DIAL confirmed that around 120 daily domestic flights will start operating from T2 from the night of October 25-26. These flights will be operated primarily by IndiGo and Air India, helping to decongest the other terminals and enhance overall airport efficiency. The move is expected to optimize operations and significantly improve the passenger experience, particularly during the busy winter travel season.

Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal 2: Key Features and Technological Enhancements

The upgraded Terminal 2 now includes a host of new features designed to offer a seamless and modern travel experience. Among the most notable additions are Self Baggage Drop (SBD) facilities, allowing passengers to check in their luggage independently, without having to wait in long queues. This facility enables travellers to scan their boarding passes, print luggage tags, and drop bags in a matter of minutes.

In another first for India, six new passenger boarding bridges equipped with autonomous docking technology have been installed. These advanced bridges will enhance aircraft turnaround time and improve passenger comfort.

Key features of these bridges include:

  • Elevated ramps for wheelchair accessibility
  • Swing doors for operator safety
  • Side-covering cushions for added boarding safety
  • Optimally adjustable cabins to suit different aircraft sizes
  • Aesthetics and Passenger Comfort Enhanced

The aesthetic overhaul of T2 includes modern ceilings, skylights, and improved flooring, offering a bright, spacious, and durable terminal environment. Enhanced road connectivity ensures smoother entry and exit for passengers, making airport transit more convenient.

DIAL has also upgraded mechanical and electrical systems at the terminal. Renovations include:

  • Advanced HVAC systems for improved air quality and climate control
  • Modern fire safety systems for enhanced passenger safety
  • Expanded electrical infrastructure to ensure a stable and uninterrupted power supply
  • Improved Flight Information Systems and Accessibility

A newly installed, high-resolution Flight Information Display System (FIDS) will provide real-time flight updates with improved clarity and accuracy. Additionally, the terminal now features customised signage for easier navigation, particularly for Persons with Reduced Mobility (PRM) and other passengers with special needs.

Apron and Airside Upgrades

The airside and apron areas, which have been in use for over four decades, have undergone comprehensive refurbishments. These include new surface treatments and layout adjustments to ensure smoother aircraft movements, higher efficiency, and capacity to handle increased flight traffic.
