Tamil Nadu Holiday List 2026: As the current year draws to a close, the Tamil Nadu government has released a comprehensive list of dates that are marked as public holidays in 2026.

The public holidays list will be followed by state government offices, banks, educational institutions and other organisations in Chennai, Coimbatore, Madurai and other cities in Tamil Nadu. Notably, Thai Poosam and Deepavali will both occur on Sundays, specifically on February 1 and November 8, respectively.

Public Holidays January

The new year kicks off with a holiday on January 1, which falls on a Thursday. The month will also include a long-weekend fun for people as Pongal will be celebrated on January 15, falling on Thursday. Next day will also be a holiday as January 16 will mark Thiruvalluvar Day, while Uzhavar Thirunal is observed on January 17, a Saturday. Republic Day will be celebrated on Monday, January 26.

Public Holiday On Telugu New Year, Ramzan, Mahaveer Jayanthi

March brings nearly three public holidays, but April will include only one public holiday to observe Good Friday. The first one will be Telugu New Year's Day on March 19, a Thursday. Ramzan follows closely on March 21, falling on a Saturday. Mahaveer Jayanthi is scheduled for Tuesday, March 31. Good Friday will be observed on April 3.

Tamil Nadu Holidays: Ambedkar Jayanti, Bakrid, Muharram, Independence Day

April features Dr B. R. Ambedkar's Birthday and Tamil New Year's Day together on April 14, a Tuesday. May begins with May Day on Friday the 1st and includes Eid al-Fitr on May 28.

Muharram is set for June 26, which is a Friday. Independence Day will be celebrated as usual on August 15, falling on a Saturday this year, which will mark a long weekend for people. Milad-un-Nabi occurs mid-week on August 26.

Krishna Jayanti, Gandhi Jayanti in Sept-Oct

Krishna Jayanthi will be celebrated on September 4, followed by Vinayagar Chathurthi on September 14. October will also include another long weekend celebration as Ayudha Poojai will be observed on Monday, October 19, and Vijayadasami on October 20, Tuesday.

Deepavali, Christmas In Nov-Dec

Deepavali takes place in early on 8 November. The year concludes with Christmas festivities scheduled for December 25. In addition to these holidays, April 1 is designated as an annual closing day for commercial and cooperative banks within Tamil Nadu.
