Closing Bell: Nifty Ends at 24,631, Sensex 57 Points Higher; Tata Steel, Adani, Hero Top Losers
Benchmark indices opened on a steady note.As of 10:00 AM, the BSE Sensex traded at 80,627.95, up 88.05 points or 0.11%, while the Nifty 50 hovered around 24,631.45, gaining 12.10 points or 0.05%.
Stock market on Thursday is expected to open slightly lower, as early indications from the pre-market suggest a muted start. Nifty futures, as of 8:45 am, were trading at 24,691, down 0.07%. Traders are closely watching global cues, including the performance of US which ended in green overnight and Asian markets, which are showing mixed trends.
On Wednesday, both benchmark indices ended the session on a positive note. The BSE Sensex climbed 304.31 points, or 0.38%, to close at 80,539.91, while the Nifty 50 advanced 131.95 points, or 0.54%, to settle at 24,619.35. Gains in sectors such as IT, banking, and energy supported the rally, as investors responded positively to corporate earnings this quarter.

India’s Wholesale Price Index (WPI) inflation stayed in the negative for the second straight month, falling to -0.58% in July, down from -0.13% in June. This marks a 25-month low, mainly due to a decline in food and fuel prices.
Ashok Leyland reported its financial results for the first quarter, posting a net profit of Rs 594 crore. The company’s revenue stood at Rs 8,725 crore during the April–June quarter. Its EBITDA came in at Rs 970 crore, with an EBITDA margin of 11%.
Bitcoin surged to a new all-time high of 4,400 on August 14, propelling the total cryptocurrency market capitalisation to an unprecedented .18 trillion.
GR Infrastructure share price traded higher in the range of 2% to 2.5% after the company emerged as lowest bidder for a transmission project in Madhya Pradesh. The annual transmission charges is at Rs 367 crore.
NSDL stock price continued to fall. On August 14, was down by nearly 3%. However, this NSE-backed stock fell by nearly 10% in two sessions, as investors booked profit after Q1 earnings.
JSW Cement stock price debuted at 4.42% premium on NSE. However, soon after the stock corrected to trade at Rs 147.10 apiece, down by 4% from its listing price of Rs 153.50.
Indian rupee weakened against the US dollar, trading at ₹87.44 per dollar, down by 0.59 points or 0.67% as per the latest data.
On August 14 with both benchmark indices showed modest gains. At the opening bell, the Nifty 50 stood at 24,648, up 28.65 points or 0.12%, while the Sensex rose 132.02 points, or 0.16%, to 80,671.93.
Asian markets showed mixed trends in early trade on Thursday morning. Shanghai rose 0.46% to 3,700.48, while Shenzhen added 0.2% to 11,574.98. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index gained 0.3% to 25,689.71. In contrast, Japan’s Nikkei tumbled 1.27% to 42,726.63, and South Korea’s Kospi edged lower by 0.14% to 3,219.82. Meanwhile, Australia’s ASX 200 climbed 0.62% to 8,881.80.
US markets ended higher on Wednesday, supported by positive corporate earnings and economic data. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) surged 463.66 points, or 1.04%, to close at 44,922.27. The S&P 500 rose 20.82 points, or 0.32%, settling at 6,466.58, while the Nasdaq Composite inched up 31.24 points, or 0.14%, to 21,713.14.
Indian markets wrapped up Wednesday with a solid upward move. The BSE Sensex climbed to 80,539.91, gaining 304.31 points (0.38%), while the Nifty 50 touched 24,619.35, up 131.95 points (0.54%).
