Stock Market Recap

Indian equity benchmarks extended their winning streak for a sixth straight session on Thursday, buoyed by optimism around potential policy changes. Hopes of a Goods and Services Tax (GST) reduction and a proposed tax exemption on insurance premiums gave a strong push to financial stocks, while Reliance Industries also contributed to the gains.

The Sensex edged up by 142.87 points (0.17%) to close at 82,000.71, while the Nifty 50 advanced 33.20 points (0.13%) to settle above the psychological 25,000 mark at 25,083.75.

Across Asia, markets were trading mixed. Gains were seen in South Korea's KOSPI (+1.06%), Japan's Nikkei 225 (+0.13%), and Hong Kong's Hang Seng (+0.33%), as investors priced in potential signals from the Fed. In contrast, Australia's ASX 200 slipped 0.11%.

Overnight, US equities ended lower ahead of Powell's address. The S&P 500 dropped 0.4%, the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.34%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 0.34%, reflecting investor caution amid uncertainty around the Fed's rate path.
