Heading into Friday's session, the stock market is likely to open on a cautious note, tracking subdued sentiment from global peers. Investors are closely watching for cues from US Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, who is scheduled to speak at the Jackson Hole economic symposium later in the day.
As of 8:09 AM, GIFT Nifty futures were down 67.5 points, trading at 25,054, signaling a soft start for domestic indices.
Stock Market Recap
Indian equity benchmarks extended their winning streak for a sixth straight session on Thursday, buoyed by optimism around potential policy changes. Hopes of a Goods and Services Tax (GST) reduction and a proposed tax exemption on insurance premiums gave a strong push to financial stocks, while Reliance Industries also contributed to the gains.
The Sensex edged up by 142.87 points (0.17%) to close at 82,000.71, while the Nifty 50 advanced 33.20 points (0.13%) to settle above the psychological 25,000 mark at 25,083.75.
Across Asia, markets were trading mixed. Gains were seen in South Korea's KOSPI (+1.06%), Japan's Nikkei 225 (+0.13%), and Hong Kong's Hang Seng (+0.33%), as investors priced in potential signals from the Fed. In contrast, Australia's ASX 200 slipped 0.11%.
Overnight, US equities ended lower ahead of Powell's address. The S&P 500 dropped 0.4%, the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.34%, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined by 0.34%, reflecting investor caution amid uncertainty around the Fed's rate path.

Jyothy Labs Ltd. - Q1FY26 Result Update - BUY (23rd August 2025)
“Rural momentum is expected to remain strong, supported by favorable monsoon, robust agri output, and higher MSPs while signs of urban recovery is visible as revival are emerging in modern trade and digital channels. A broader recovery anticipated from Q3FY26, aided by festive demand and easing inflation. H2FY26 likely to see improvement in margins as input costs stabilize and pricing actions normalize. Growth will be underpinned by innovation, brand equity, and channel agility, with the company also exploring inorganic opportunities for strategic expansion. JLL’s strong balance sheet and cash flow provide additional support. We value JLL at a P/E of 34x (2yr avg=36x), with a target price of Rs. 412, and recommend BUY rating supported by rural tailwinds, innovation-led growth, improving urban sentiment and recent stock price correction,” said Geojit Investments Ltd in a report.

Sector Update: Infrastructure | Highway focused companies reported weak earnings
“Execution was a mixed bag in 1QFY26, with diversified EPC players such as Kalpataru Projects, KEC International and L&T delivering strong growth while highway companies like KNR Constructions, PNC Infratech and Ashoka Buildcon registered a sharp YoY decline due to lower executable backlogs and delayed payments. Execution is likely to remain weak across the board in 2QFY26 as well due to the heavy monsoon and, for highway companies, also due to weak executable backlogs as appointed dates for several projects are likely to come in end-2Q or in 3Q. Order inflows have been robust for diversified companies but relatively weaker for highway developers. Despite this, order backlogs remain moderate to strong for most companies, with book-to-bill ratios ranging from 2.5x to 4x TTM revenue for most players. EBITDA margins improved for diversified companies while being weak for highway companies. Gross debt and working capital stretched for most companies in 1QFY26 amid seasonality. Asset monetisation plans remain under progress for highway developers like PNC Infratech, HG Infra, Ashoka Buildcon and KNR Constructions, which will release significant growth capital. PNC Infratech and Ahluwalia Contracts are our top picks,” said Vaibhav Shah of JM Financial Institutional Securities Limited.

Company Update: Wipro | An opportune acquisition
“WPRO has announced the acquisition of the Digital Transformation Solutions (DTS) business of HARMAN, a Samsung company. Total consideration for the deal is USD 375mn, including earn-outs, valuing the transaction at 1.2x CY24 sales (USD 315mn). DTS brings digital engineering and ER&D capabilities to WPRO’s already large engineering practice. The transaction follows a number of IT Services-ER&D acquisitions in the recent past (Exhibit 1), underlining the large and underpenetrated outsourcing opportunity in the space. We reckon this acquisition makes WPRO the 9th largest ER&D Service provider globally (Exhibit 2), making it a formidable competitor. Besides, HARMAN DTS’ strength in Hi-tech and Lifesciences aligns with WPRO’s, enabling easier cross-sell. We have not incorporated the numbers in our estimates yet pending details around margins etc. But our back of the envelop calculation suggests it could have a 50-60bps EBIT margin impact, led largely by a) lower margin profile (20-30bps impact); b) required investments (10-15bps); c) incremental amortisation of 10-15bps – based on WPRO’s purchase price allocation for CAPCO. EPS impact could be marginal (c.1%). Further, purchase consideration will represent merely c.6% of cash-on-books, not impacting future payout/buyback hopes,” said Abhishek Kumar of JM Financial Institutional Securities Limited.

Market Outlook By Amruta Shinde, Technical & Derivative Analyst at Choice Equity Broking Private Limited
Given the backdrop of heightened volatility and mixed global signals, traders are advised to adopt a cautious “buy-on-dips” strategy. Booking partial profits on rallies and maintaining tight trailing stop-losses is recommended to manage risk. Fresh long positions
should be considered only if the Nifty sustains above the 25,250 level. While the broader trend remains cautiously bullish, close monitoring of technical levels and global market cues will be crucial.

Bank Nifty Outlook By Amruta Shinde, Technical & Derivative Analyst at Choice Equity Broking Private Limited
The Bank Nifty also remained range-bound between 55,830–55,700, consolidating throughout the session. A breakout from this band, supported by strong price action, will dictate the next directional move. Supports are at 55,600 and 55,450, while resistance is
seen in the 56,000–56,200 zone. A convincing breakout above this could fuel a rally toward the psychological 56,600 mark.

Nifty Outlook By Amruta Shinde, Technical & Derivative Analyst at Choice Equity Broking Private Limited
The Nifty, in the previous session, opened flat and traded in a narrow range, reflecting indecision among participants. On the technical front, a decisive move above 25,150 could open the door for an upside toward 25,250 and 25,500, while immediate supports
are placed at 25,000 and 24,850 — levels considered attractive for fresh long positions.

Market Outlook Today By Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited
The headwinds for the market from Trump tariffs will weigh on markets constraining the rally of the last 6 days. If the penal tariff of 25% kicks in on August, and this appears likely, the impact on India’s growth will be not be 20 to 30 bp estimated with 25% reciprocal tariffs, but more. The market will have to discount that.
A significant trend in the market is the outperformance of largecaps, which is desirable and fundamentally justified. While Nifty is up by 1% during the last one year, Nifty Midcap 150 is down by 0.35% and Nifty Smallcap 250 is down by 4.7 % during the same period. This trend is fundamentally justified and likely to continue. Midcap IT is showing resilience now.
Investors should focus on valuations now.

Nifty Prediction Today By Anand James, Chief Market Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited
Yesterday's upswings went soft after stretching to 25153, and within touching distance of the objectives that we had set out with last week. Directional indicators are yet to indicate enough momentum to continue pushing higher though. But besides a bit of volatility expectations, the set up is not ready for a collapse either. For now, 25033-24977 may continue to be used as the downside marker.
