Stock market Today opened with mild gains as the Sensex at 81,462.78, up 37.63 points (0.046%), and the Nifty at 24,990.85, higher by 17.75 points (0.071%). In early trade, some of the most active stocks on the Nifty included Adani Power, which slipped 0.88% to Rs. 628.85 despite heavy volumes of over 4.25 crore shares, and OFSS, which gained 2.97%. Waaree Energies rose 1.64% while HDFC Bank and Infosys traded slightly lower. Among the gainers, JWL surged 6.58% whereas TCS edged up 0.39%.
After ending with gains in the previous session, the stock market is likely to start Thursday on a positive note. GIFT Nifty is trading in the green at 25,093.50, up 0.08%, indicating a firm opening for domestic equities. On Wednesday, benchmark indices extended their winning streak with the Sensex closing at 81,425, up 0.40%, while the Nifty 50 settled at 24,973.10, gaining 104.50 points or 0.42%.
In Asia, markets opened on a mixed note. Japan's Nikkei 225 surged 0.99% and the Shenzhen index advanced. Overnight, US markets closed mixed as investors digested economic signals. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) declined 0.48% to 45,490.92, pressured by financial and energy stocks. In contrast, the S&P 500 & the Nasdaq Composite inched up.
