Result Update: Hindalco Industries - Novelis | Margins impacted by tariffs; mitigation strategy to cushion impact
“Novelis reported 1Q EBITDA of USD416mn, marginally below JMfe driven by elevated scrap prices, unfavourable product mix and negative impact of tariffs. Adjusted EBITDA/t came in at USD432/t - down from recent highs of USD494/t in 4Q - mitigation actions to begin offsetting tariff impacts in 2HFY26. Key takeaways from the call are – 1) company witnessed a net negative tariff impact of ~USD28mn in 1QFY26 – expects this to go up to ~USD60mn (without mitigation strategy) per quarter going ahead 2) company believes tariff impact of USD60mn can be mitigated through a) more US (local) production, b) customer pass throughs and c) cost-takeout programs 3) FY26 capex guidance maintained at USD1.9-2.2bn 4) company expects cost savings of USD100+ million by the end of FY26 compared to USD75mn estimated earlier. Net debt increased marginally QoQ to USD5.5bn – net debt to EBITDA at 3.2x compared to 2.9x as at end of 4Q. Hindalco, given ~70%+ steady/strong EBITDA being non-LME linked, remains our preferred play in the metal space. We await Hindalco consolidated numbers - to be published shortly. Reiterate BUY,” said Ashutosh Somani of JM Financial Institutional Securities.

Result Update: Lemon Tree Hotels | Strong performance; gearing up for version 2.0
“LTH reported a healthy performance with revenue of INR 3.1bn (+18% YoY; 3% beat on JMFe) led by 10% YoY growth in ARR and c.591bps YoY increase in occupancy. EBITDA grew 22% YoY to INR 1.4bn with EBITDA margin improving 156bps to 44.5% led by improved performance of Aurika, Mumbai and positive operating leverage. The company has strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Mr. Neelendra Singh as the Managing Director of LTH along with a new MD & CEO for Fleur and few more functional heads at senior management level. These changes are part of its future-focused succession planning and will help in creating the roadmap for Fleur’s listing. We expect LTH to deliver Revenue/EBITDA/PAT CAGR of 11%/13%/14% over FY25-28E aided by low double-digit RevPAR growth and rapid scale-up of the asset light business. Maintain BUY with a Mar’26 TP of INR 175, valuing LTH at 24.0x EV/EBITDA,” said Sumit Kumar of JM Financial Institutional Securities.

Market Outlook Today By Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments
The market will be focused on the outcome of the Trump-Putin talks scheduled for August 7th. If the talks result in a breakthrough and a possible end to the Russia-Ukraine war, there will be a dramatic change in market sentiments. The 25% penal tariffs imposed on India for buying oil from Russia will become irrelevant. But since Trump has a bloated ego and he is unhappy with India’s response, we don’t know how things are going to pan out. Extension of the China-US talks for another 90 days is a reflection of the Chinese leverage in talks, particularly the leverage arising out of China’s dominant position in rare earth magnet market.
The robust equity fund flows of Rs 42702 crores in July into mutual funds reflect the optimism of retail investors. This huge liquidity can support the market despite the geopolitical headwinds. However, investors should be guarded against the elevated valuations in the broader market, particularly in smallcaps. Investors should focus on high quality fairly-valued growth stocks in financials, telecom and capital goods. Midcap IT offers value buying opportunities.

Nifty Outlook Today By Anand James, Chief Market Strategist, Geojit Investments
That yesterday's promising upswing stalled near 24590 is sign of a caution calling for pull back early in the day. However, daily oscillators are positioned favourably, encouraging us to look for 25000 or more, despite several intermediate challenges at 24670-720-850. Alternatively, inability to float above 24590 will deflate the upside momentum, but we may not see a rush to the 200 day SMA, now positioned at 24049, unless 24450 gives away.
