Closing Bell: Sensex/Nifty Ends Flat; Shriram Fin, Eternal, SunPharma, Tata Steel Top Losers

Stock market ended on a flat-to-positive note today, with the Sensex closing at 82,623.64, up by 52.73 points or 0.06%, while the Nifty settled at 25,229.95, gaining 34.15 points or 0.14%. Among the top gainers, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) led the pack with a gain of 2.17%, followed by Wipro at 2.10%, SBI at 1.87%, Tech Mahindra at 1.83%, and Nestle at 1.81%. On the downside, Shriram Finance was the biggest loser, slipping 2.35%, followed by Eternal, Sun Pharma, Tata Steel and Cipla.

Indian stock market benchmarks, the BSE Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open on a lower note. The Sensex had closed rising by 317.45 points, or 0.39%, at 82,570.91, while the Nifty 50 went up by 113.50 points, or 0.45%, to settle at 25,195.80 on Tuesday July 15.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a negative start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 25,17 level, with a fall of 89.95 points or 0.37% at 8.15 AM.

Most Asian markets opened in the green zone despite subdued overnight closing from western peers. U.S. stock index futures extended resistive move following a negative session on Wall Street following mildly stronger-than-expected June inflation data and persistent concerns over President Donald Trump's trade tariffs.

Sectors to Watch: Consumer Durables, Selective Auto ancillaries and Oil downstream stocks expected to remain on focus during the day.

All sectoral indices had ended in the green on Tuesday, suggesting a comprehensive buying spree across the board. Amongst them, Auto, Healthcare, Pharma, and Consumer Durables were the major gainers

"Nifty found support near its 50 days SMA and bounced back, which has raised hopes for the bulls to regain their momentum. Considering the evident strength across the broader markets, it appears that today's recovery is likely to be sustained. Long should be protected with the stoploss of 25000 in Nifty. On the higher side, 25331 could offer short term resistance to Nifty," said Nandish Shah - Deputy Vice President, HDFC Securities.
