“RBI’s 6 August pause at a 5.5 % repo rate locks in this year’s 100-bp easing, keeping credit costs benign for banks, housing and cap-ex plays. Yet the tailwind is finite: headline CPI touched a six-year low of 2.1 % in June but is projected to rebound to 4.4 % by Q4-FY26, limiting further downside in 10-yr yields and threatening the rich discount-rate premium baked into high-P/E defensives and REIT-style proxies. Core inflation has inched up to 4.4 %, fuelled by a gold surge—evidence of resilient demand that supports discretionary spending but justifies the MPC’s caution on fresh cuts."

RBI Keeps Repo Rate Unchanged At 5.5 %
The Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) opted to keep the repo rate unchanged at 5.5% after front-loading a 100 basis points rate cut since the beginning of 2025. RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra announced on Wednesday that the MPC has unanimously decided to keep the repo rate unchanged with a neutral stance.
