Closing Bell: Sensex Jumps 746 Pts, Nifty Ends Above 24,562 Mark; Adani, Tata, Grasim Top Gainers
The Sensex opened at 79,982.45, up 124.66 points or 0.16%, while the Nifty 50 climbed 58.85 points or 0.24% to 24,422.15 in early trading today.
Global market cues point to a mixed start for the day. At 8:30 AM, GIFT Nifty was trading at 24,434, up slightly by 0.06%, indicating a muted opening for the Indian market. At the previous close on Friday, August 8, the 30-share BSE Sensex slipped 765.47 points, to settle at 79,857.79, while theNifty fell 0.95%, to end at 24,363.30.
In Asia, markets opened mostly higher this morning, with Japan and China leading the gains. On Wall Street, US markets ended higher on Friday, August 8, with all three major indexes posting solid gains. The rally was fueled by strong corporate earnings and optimism over the US economic outlook.
Meanwhile, reports indicate Nvidia and AMD will pay 15% of their China chip sales revenues to the US government. In Europe, markets closed largely lower on Friday amid reports of a US-Russia plan to halt the Ukraine war.
Out of 2,933 stocks traded on the National Stock Exchange (NSE), 1,370 stocks advanced, while 1,480 declined, indicating weak market breadth. A total of 49 stocks, including Fortis, Delhivery, eClerx Services, Indian Bank, and Yatharth Hospital, touched their 52-week highs. Meanwhile, 99 stocks—such as GRP, Quess Corp, Protean eGov, and Capacit’e Infraprojects—fell to their 52-week lows.
Stock Market Live: Navratna Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) National Aluminium Corporation Limited (NALCO) shares fell from the day's high on Monday, days after announcing June quarter results and an update on dividends.
Stock Market Live: State Bank of India shares rallied on Monday after the bank announced its Q1 result. Brokerage Emkay Global has retained a ‘Buy’ rating for the stock. “We maintain BUY with TP at Rs975 (valuing the SA bank at 1.2x Jun-27E ABV/subs at Rs270/sh),” noted the brokerage in its report.
Stock Market Live: Nifty is struggling to reclaim the 24,500 mark. The Nifty 50 is likely to close close to the mark on Monday. "On technical grounds, Nifty has an immediate Support at 24300. If Nifty closes below that, further downside can be expected towards 24240-24170 mark. On the flip side 24440-24500 will act as strong resistance levels. Action: Nifty has an immediate Support at 24300 and on a decisive close below expect a fall to 24240-24170 levels," according to Nirmal Bang brokerage report.
Stock Market Live: Nifty PSU Bank, State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, and other banking stocks rallied on Monday, fuelling the Nifty PSU Bank’s trajectory on Monday. Nifty PSU Bank was trading 1.47% higher at 821 points.

Two Tata Group stocks are top gainers of Sensex. These are Tata Motors and Trent who gained by 3% and 2% respectively.
Bajel Projects Ltd, a Bajaj Group company, has declared its results for the quarter ended 30th June 2025. For the first quarter of FY’2025-26, the company achieved revenue from operations of about Rs. 608 Cr., marking a growth of 19% over the revenue of about Rs. 512 Cr. in the corresponding quarter of the previous year. The company's EBITDA grew to about Rs. 25 Cr., a 33% increase from Rs. 19 Cr. during the same period last year.
Jyoti Structures Limited (JSL) has secured a new order worth ₹ 639 Crores (excluding GST) for 765kV & 400 kV Transmission Lines in India on turnkey EPC basis. These projects are to be commissioned in a 12 to 15 months timeframe.
Jupiter Wagons Ltd. (JWL), a provider of comprehensive mobility solutions encompassing rail, road, and marine transportation, has bagged an order worth INR 242.41 crore from GATX India Private Limited, the largest private railcar lessor in the country, for the manufacturing and supply of 583 specialised wagons.
On August 11, several companies are scheduled to announce their quarterly earnings, including Bajaj Consumer Care, Ashoka Buildcon, VST Tillers Tractors, Titagarh Rail Systems, Astral, Awfis Space Solutions, Tilaknagar Industries, BEML, Praj Industries, Travel Food Services, Brigade Hotel Ventures, Krsnaa Diagnostics, Bata India, Websol Energy System, Enviro Infra Engineers, and Ipca Laboratories.
US stock markets ended higher on Friday, August 8, with all three major indexes posting solid gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA) rose 206.97 points, or 0.47%, to close at 44,175.61. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite jumped 207.32 points, or 0.98%, finishing at 21,450.02, while the S&P 500 advanced 49.45 points, or 0.78%, to end at 6,389.45. The rally was mainly because of strong corporate earnings and optimism over the US economic outlook.

Australia’s ASX 200 advanced 28.5 points, or 0.32%, to 8,835.6. In contrast, South Korea’s Kospi edged down 1.69 points, or 0.05%, to 3,208.32 at the open.
At the previous close on Friday, August 8, the 30-share BSE Sensex slipped 765.47 points, or 0.95%, to settle at 79,857.79, while the NSE Nifty declined 232.85 points, or 0.95%, ending the session at 24,363.30.
