Stock Market Holiday: The Indian stock market will remain closed on Thursday, October 2 on the occasion of Dussehra and Gandhi Jayanti. Nifty and Sensex snapped their eight day losses on Wednesday to close in green. Now, the benchmark indices will remain shut on Thursday on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra celebrations.

Nifty and Sensex rallied significantly on Wednesday after the Reserve Bank of India monetary policy committee announced to keep the repo rate unchanged for October. The positive growth outlook for the Indian economy, revised inflation estimates, and a slew of banking reforms approved by the RBI MPC boosted the stock market sentiment, driving Nifty and Sensex higher.

Nifty 50 closed 225 points higher at 24,836 points. Whereas, BSE Sensex jumped nearly 715 points to 80,983.31 points. Stock Market Holiday: Is NSE, BSE Trading Shut Today, October 2?

As per the NSE website, October 2 is a trading, as well as clearing holiday, to mark the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti and Dussehra festival celebration. Similarly, trading in equity segment, equity derivative segment, SLB segment, currency derivatives segment, NDS-RST and Tri Party Repo segment, commodity derivatives segment and electronic gold receipts (EGR) segment will remain shut on Thursday.

Bank Holiday Today

All banks (scheduled, commercial, cooperative, etc) will remain shut on October 2, according to the RBI holiday calendar. As October 2 is a public holiday on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanati, all schools, colleges, government institutions, offices, and other private corporations will remain closed on Thursday.

Stock Market Holidays In October

Stock market will remain closed for a total of eleven days in October on several festival occasions and Saturdays and Sundays. This year, October month will include a range of festive occasions including Diwali, Dussehra, Dhanteras, etc. Stock market remains closed every year on these occasions. Hence trading on BSE and NSE will be closed for at least 11 days. Among these, three are special holidays for Gandhi Jayanti, Diwali, and Balipratipada. The remaining eight holidays fall on Saturdays and Sundays.

During these closures, trading activities in equities, derivatives, bonds, forex, and other market instruments will be halted. Investors should plan their trading and investment strategies accordingly to accommodate these non-trading days.
