Stock Market Holidays in July 2025: Get Complete List of Public Holidays

July includes several state-specific holidays like Kharchi Puja in Tripura, Bonalu in Telangana, and Martyr's Day in Jammu & Kashmir but these do not impact nationwide closures. However, major observances such as Muharram on 6th July, Sunday, which is a gazetted holiday in many parts of the country, may affect banking operations regionally, especially in states where it's officially recognised.

For the stock market, closures only apply to pan-India gazetted holidays recognised by the RBI and SEBI and since Muharram falls on a Sunday, the NSE and BSE will remain unaffected. Similarly, second and fourth Saturdays on July 12 and 26 will be non-working days for banks, but markets and schools may function normally depending on state-specific decisions.

As per the standard trading calendar for the NSE and BSE, the markets remain closed every Saturday and Sunday. In July 2025, those fall on the following dates:

  • Saturdays: July 5, July 12, July 19 and July 26
  • Sundays: July 6, July 13, July 20 and July 27

This brings the total number of non-trading days in July to eight, but all are regular weekend closures, no additional public or festival-related trading holidays have been declared for the month.

Is July 7 a Public Holiday in India? When is Muharram?

Muharram, a sacred Islamic observance and one of the four holy months in Islam, is widely recognised as a public holiday in India. In 2025, it is tentatively expected on Monday, July 7. However, the final confirmation depends on the sighting of the moon, which marks the start of the Islamic New Year. If the moon is not visible on the expected date, the holiday may shift to July 8.

On the day Muharram is observed, schools, banks, government offices, post offices, and many private offices remain closed in most states. Citizens are advised to check local announcements or government circulars the night before, as official confirmation of the holiday is typically made after the moon sighting.

Will MCX Trading Be Open on Muharram?

On the day of Muharram, the Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will remain closed during the morning trading session as per usual holiday protocol. However, trading will resume in the evening session, operating from 5:00 PM to 11:30/11:55 PM. Traders should plan accordingly, as only post-market hours will be available for commodity trading on this day.
