Scam Alert! Govt Warns Against Fake Email Offering e-PAN Card Download; Here's What You MUST Do
The PIB Fact Check team issued a warning on July 6, 2025, cautioning users against a fake email asking them to download their e-PAN card. The government has confirmed that this email is completely fake, and clicking the link could expose your financial and personal information to fraudsters.
Did You Receive an e-PAN Download Email?
Many users across India have recently reported receiving an email in which they are asked to provide an e-PAN card download link. The email appears official, but the Press Information Bureau Fact Check team has clarified that the message is not from any government authority. Clicking the link could lead to phishing websites designed to steal sensitive data like Aadhaar numbers, bank account details, and income tax login credentials.

PIB Fact Check: The e-PAN Email Is 100% Fake
The official PIBFactCheck account on X stated clearly, "This email is #Fake. Do not respond to any emails, links, calls & SMS asking you to share financial & sensitive information."
How to Report e-PAN Phishing Scams in India
With cyber scams on the rise, it's more important than ever to stay alert. If you've received such an email, don't click any links or respond. Instead, report phishing attempts to the official Income Tax Department portal, which is the only valid channel to report tax-related scams or phishing emails in India.
This type of PAN card email scam often mimics official formats and logos to appear legitimate. However, once a user clicks the link, their data may be leaked or malware may be installed on their device. Victims may even end up losing access to their bank accounts or facing identity theft.
Safety Tips to Avoid e-PAN and Income Tax Scams
- Never click on unsolicited links in emails or SMS.
- Always check the sender's email address.
- Never share OTPs, passwords, or Aadhaar numbers.
- Ignore calls claiming to be from the "IT Department" demanding urgent action.
- Verify any tax-related updates on incometaxindia.gov.in.
