The Hindu community in India is celebrating the holy festival of Sawan Shivratri today, July 23. The month of Sawan (Shravan) has huge religious importance for Hindus across India. This year, Sawan Shivratri is being observed today. The devotees of Lord Shiva observe fasts and offer special prayers, especially in North Indian states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, and Uttarakhand, where Kanwar Yatra is also in full swing during this time. Having said that, a lot of people must be questioning whether it's a bank holiday today or not. Here's a full update on bank holidays as per the RBI list.
Will Banks Remain Closed on Sawan Shivratri 2025?
Even though Sawan Shivratri holds religious importance, there is no bank holiday on July 23 according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar. There is no national or regional bank holiday declared on the occasion of Sawan Shivratri. Therefore, all public and private sector banks will operate as usual across the country.

While there's no bank holiday on Sawan Shivratri, customers should be aware of the following official upcoming bank holidays in July 2025:
Saturday, July 26, which is also the fourth Saturday, and banks will remain closed across India
Sunday, July 27: Weekend holiday and All banks closed as usual.
Monday, July 28: This is a local holiday in Sikkim on the occasion of the Drukpa Tshe-Jo Festival.
However, it should be noted that while branches will remain closed on these days, digital banking services such as net banking, mobile banking, UPI, and ATM services will remain functional 24x7.

Looking ahead, August 2025 will have more than 10 bank holidays, including Sundays and festival-related closures.
August 3, 10, 17, 24, 31: All Sundays: Banks closed
August 9: Raksha Bandhan (regional holiday)
August 10: Second Saturday: Banks closed
August 15: Independence Day: Nationwide holiday
August 16: Janmashtami (state-wise closure)
August 23: Fourth Saturday: Banks closed
August 27-28: Ganesh Chaturthi and Nuakhai: Regional holidays
Banking customers are advised to plan their in-branch visits wisely, especially if they need to deposit checks, withdraw cash, or complete documentation.
How to Access Banking Services on Bank Holidays
While physical branches may close, digital banking services remain uninterrupted. You can use Net Banking, mobile banking apps, UPI platforms like PhonePe, GPay, and BHIM, and ATM services for cash withdrawals and deposits.
So, even if your nearest branch is shut, you can still perform fund transfers, bill payments, and balance checks without any delay.
