Rifle Shooter to Pathbreaker: Meet Shreyashi, Rama & Leshi, 3 Women Ministers Steering Nitish’s Bihar Cabinet
Bihar Cabinet 2025: Days after recording a landslide victory, Janata Dal (United) supremo Nitish Kumar, on Thursday, took oath as Bihar Chief Minister for the record 10th time. Stealing the spotlight during the oath-taking ceremony were Shreyasi Singh, Rama Nishad and Leshi Singh, the only three women leaders inducted into Nitish Kumar's new cabinet.
Including the trailblazing trio, a total of 26 ministers were sworn in during the oath-taking ceremony on Thursday. Fourteen ministers from the Bihar cabinet were from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), eight were from the JDU, and two were from the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas), whereas Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) had one minister each in the cabinet.

BJP was the biggest party emerging as the winner in the Bihar Assembly elections followed by JDU. As the three ministers made headlines with their inductions, here are all the details about Shreyasi Singh, Rama Nishad and Leshi Singh.
Who is Shreyasi Singh?
Before achieving this crucial political milestone, Shreyasi Singh has provel her metal in the shooting range. A former rifle shooter, Shreyasi Singh, has won multiple international tournaments, including the Commonwealth Games.
Singh was born on August 29, 1991, into a politically strong family. Her mother, Putul Kumari, was an MP, while her father, Digvijay Singh, served as a Union Minister.
She made history as Bihar's first Commonwealth Games gold medalist in women's double trap shooting at the 2018 Games in Australia.
Shreyasi Singh made her political debut in 2020. In the Bihar elections 2025, she defeated rival candidate, Rashtriya Janata Dal's Shamshad Alam by a margin of over 54,000 votes in the recently concluded Assembly elections in Bihar.
The Pathbreaker
Seasoned politician, Leshi Singh, is considered as Nitish Kumar's lieutenant in the state. However, her success story is more about her resilience, grit and determination. Leshi Singh's husband, Butan Singh, was a politically strong figure, but was murdered nearly twenty years ago.
After her husband's demise, Leshi Singh turned the rural Purnia seat of Dhamdaha, into a personal fortress. She is a six-time MLA representing JD(U) from Dhamdaha constituency in Purnia district.
At 51 years old, she brings seasoned experience to Bihar's Legislative Assembly. In the 2025 elections, she defeated RJD's Santosh Kumar by 55,159 votes.
Leshi Singh has been representing Dhamdaha since 2010 after initially winning on a Samata Party ticket in 2000 and again in 2005 before briefly losing it to RJD's Dilip Kumar Yadav later that year. Her election reflects growing women's participation in Bihar politics.
Rama Nishad
Rama Nishad is a prominent female politician in Bihar. Married to former MP Ajay Nishad, Rama represents Aurai constituency and champions the extremely backward class community. Her electoral success is marked by winning with the highest votes across her district's constituencies in 2020.
Nishad was speculated to be a potential Deputy Chief Minister candidate before this year's elections. Her victory over Vikassheel Insaan Party's Bhogendra Sahni by 57,206 votes secured her a cabinet position. She polled over a lakh votes from Aurai constituency in Muzaffarpur district.
Bihar Cabinet 2025
The swearing-in ceremony followed nearly a week after NDA retained control of Bihar with a strong mandate of 202 seats out of 243-member Assembly. The BJP secured most seats with 89 followed by JD(U) with 85 seats; LJP(RV), HAM and RLM also contributed to this victory.
