Rainy Raksha Bandhan For Delhites! Heavy Rains Cause Waterlogging, Flight Delays; IMD Issues Red Alert

Delhi Rains: Delhi's National Capital Region (NCR) woke up to heavy rainfall, waterlogging, and a drop in temperature on Saturday morning amid the Raksha Bandhan celebration. Delhi has been receiving continuous rainfall for over eight hours. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Delhi-NCR for heavy rainfall on Saturday. Meanwhile, airlines such as Air India and IndiGo have issued advisories, as more than 100 flights have been delayed so far.

Amid the ongoing Rakshabandhan celebration today, ie August 9, many parts of the city, including Shastri Bhawan, RK Puram, Moti Bagh, and Kidwai Nagar are witnessing severe rainfall.

Delhi Rains: IMD Issues Red Alert

The India Meteorological Department has issued red alert for the city urging people to stay alert and avoid going outdoors on Saturday. The severe rainfall could likely impact the Rakshabandhan festive spirit and may impact the plans of thousands of Delhi residents.

Red alert due to Delhi rainfall is issued for Delhi, North Delhi, West Delhi, South Delhi, South East Delhi and Central Delhi. These regions in Delhi are likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunderstorm.

Delhi Rains: Waterlogging Experienced In Key Areas

The city has witnessed severe waterlogging at Panchkuian Marg, Minto Road and Mathura Road due to heavy rainfall. THere was heavy rainfall led waterlogging near Bharat Mandapam's Gate no.7, reported ANI.

Delhi's main areas like Vasant Kunj, RK Puram, Connaught Place, and Minto Bridge are also experiencing intense showers making them prone to waterlogging. There were also reports of waterlogging at Panchkuian Marg

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Saturday's forecast predicts a "thunderstorm with rain." The maximum temperature is expected to be 36 degrees Celsius, and the minimum temperature is expected to be 27 degrees Celsius. As per IMD, Delhi will experience rain with thunderstorms till August 12.

Over 100 Flight Delayed, Advisory Issued

Over 100 flights have been delayed from the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI Airport) leading to chaos and passenger inconvenience. Given the situation due to Delhi rains, Air India has issued advisory for the passengers.

"Rain may impact flight operations to and from Delhi today. Please check your flight status here http://airindia.com/in/en/manage/f... before heading to the airport and allow extra time for your journey to the airport due to possible slow moving traffic," read a post by Air India.

The monsoon season has taken a deadly toll on the state. Since June 20, a total of 202 deaths have been recorded due to monsoon-related incidents. Of these, 108 people lost their lives due to rain, floods, and landslides, while 94 deaths occurred in road accidents, as per the latest official data.
