Punjab's Finance Minister, Harpal Singh Cheema, has announced the allocation of Rs 332 crore for rural development projects across the state. He assured that an additional Rs 334 crore would be released by late December or early January to maintain a steady flow of resources for rural enhancement.

The funds will be allocated to gram panchayats for local development and sanitation projects. The distribution of the overall grant will follow a 70:20:10 ratio among Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samitis, and Zila Parishads, according to an official statement.
Focus on Infrastructure and Sports
Cheema highlighted the extensive infrastructure project underway, which includes recarpeting 19,000 kilometers of roads with an investment of Rs 4,150 crore. This initiative aims to improve connectivity and infrastructure in rural areas significantly.
The Punjab government is also investing Rs 1,000 crore in sports infrastructure. Around 250 sports nurseries have been constructed and are operational, providing growth opportunities for the state's youth.
Commitment to Rural Development
The Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann-led administration has prioritized development since taking office. Cheema emphasized the government's commitment to building cleaner and more vibrant rural communities through direct resource allocation to gram panchayats.
Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, and Gurdaspur are among the districts receiving the largest portions of the Rs 332 crore fund. Other notable recipients include Sangrur, Patiala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Moga, Shahid Bhagat Singh Nagar, Sri Muktsar Sahib, and Tarn Taran.
Cheema stated that these efforts aim to ensure both local development and mandated sanitation works. The government is focused on creating accountable resource flows to enhance rural living standards.
The ongoing projects reflect the government's dedication to fostering growth and development in Punjab's rural areas. By investing in infrastructure and sports facilities, they aim to provide better opportunities for residents and promote community well-being.
