PMFBY Kharif 2025 Registration Begins in Lakhimpur Kheri: Check Last Date, Eligibility & Claim Process

The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) Kharif 2025 has officially started in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. Farmers in the region can now register for PMFBY to protect their crops against natural disasters like floods, drought, and pest attacks. The last date to register for this season is July 31. This insurance scheme was first launched in 2016 and has since become India's largest crop insurance program.

What Does PMFBY Cover?

The PMFBY scheme covers a wide range of crops, including food grains, oilseeds, and commercial and horticultural crops. It provides protection against losses caused by floods, drought, hailstorms, cyclones, pest attacks, diseases, lightning, and post-harvest damage due to unseasonal rain (within 14 days). This comprehensive coverage ensures farmers don't lose income even in bad weather.

Benefits of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana

One of the biggest benefits of PMFBY is its low premium cost. For Kharif crops, farmers only have to pay 2% of the total insurance amount. For Rabi crops, it's 1.5%, and for commercial or horticultural crops, the rate is 5%.

The rest of the premium is paid by the Central and State Governments, making the scheme affordable, especially for small and marginal farmers in Lakhimpur Kheri and other rural areas.

PMFBY uses the latest technologies like drones, satellite imagery, remote sensing, and smartphone apps to assess crop damage more accurately and quickly. These tools help verify claims faster and reduce fraud.

Usually, farmers get their insurance claim money within 60 days of harvest via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) straight into their bank accounts.

To improve support for farmers, the government has introduced the Krishi Rakshak Portal and Helpline (KRPH). This portal helps farmers file complaints, track claims, and get real-time updates about the PMFBY scheme. It ensures that farmers have a platform to voice concerns about delays or disputes in claim settlements.

Who Can Apply for PMFBY & How?

Since Kharif 2020, PMFBY has been voluntary for all farmers. This means both landowners and tenant farmers in notified areas like Lakhimpur Kheri can apply. Farmers can register online at pmfby.gov.in or offline through Common Service Centres (CSCs), banks, or authorised agents. Documents required include an Aadhaar card, proof of land ownership or tenancy, and a bank passbook.

How to File a PMFBY Claim?

If your crops are damaged, you must inform the authorities within 72 hours. Then, provide supporting documents and cooperate in Crop Cutting Experiments (CCE) conducted by local officials and the insurance company.

PMFBY

If more than 75% of the area is affected, farmers can claim for prevented sowing or a failed crop and may receive up to 25% of the insured amount as advance compensation.

To ensure smooth operations, the Union Cabinet has extended PMFBY until FY2025-26 with a revised budget of Rs. 69,515.71 crore. Since its launch, over 29 crore farmer applications have been insured, and more than Rs. 95,000 crore has been paid out as claims
