Rs.2000 Crore Unclaimed Funds Returned, Prime Minister Modi Urges to utilise 'Your Money, Your Right’ Drive

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that the government has returned nearly Rs.2000 crore of unclaimed amounts, stuck in banks and other financial institutions, to the citizens through the Your Money, Your Right initiative. The goal has been achieved through the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders, notably the government, regulatory bodies, banks and other financial institutions, the prime minister said. In order to scale up the movement, PM Modi has urged citizens whose families have unclaimed deposits, insurance proceeds, dividends or investments to trace and claim the funds using dedicated portals, such as

• Reserve Bank of India (RBI) - UDGAM Portal for unclaimed bank deposits & balances: https://udgam.rbi.org.in/unclaimed-deposits/

• Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) - Bima Bharosa Portal for unclaimed insurance policy proceeds: https://bimabharosa.irdai.gov.in/

• Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) - MITRA Portal for unclaimed amounts in mutual funds: https://app.mfcentral.com/

• Ministry of Corporate Affairs, IEPFA Portal for Unpaid dividends & unclaimed shares: https://www.iepf.gov.in/

He said, "Check whether you or your family have unclaimed deposits, insurance proceeds, dividends or investments. Visit the portals I have mentioned above.Make use of facilitation camps in your district."

PM Modi pushes 'Your Money, Your Right’ Drive

The PM also requested to attend facilitation camps in the respective districts. "Act now to claim what is yours and convert a forgotten financial asset into a new opportunity. Your money is yours. Let us make sure that it finds its way back to you. Together, let us build a transparent, financially empowered, and inclusive India!" PM was reminded of his social media posts. He also highlighted the alarming scale of unclaimed financial assets in India-Rs.78,000 crore lying idle in banks, nearly Rs.14,000 crore with insurance companies, around Rs.3,000 crore in mutual funds, and dividends worth Rs.9,000 crore left unclaimed.

"As of December 2025, facilitation camps have been organised in 477 districts across rural and urban India as part of our Money, Your Right initiative." "The emphasis has been on covering remote areas," the PM said.

Your Money, Your Right Initiative

The Your Money, Your Right initiative, launched in October 2025, is a nationwide programme that helps people claim money they might have forgotten about. Large amounts of unclaimed funds remain in banks, insurance companies, mutual funds, and corporate dividends. This initiative makes it easier for citizens to find and recover such money through special online portals and local help camps set up across districts.

By streamlining the process and making it transparent, the program turns idle, unclaimed savings into useful financial resources, builds trust with financial institutions, and encourages people to be more aware of their finances. The initiative, Your Money, Your Right, aims to create an inclusive and financially empowered India, where everyone can take control of their finances and prevent their money from being lost in the system.
