New GST reforms, income tax relaxations, and the ongoing festive season were among the key highlights of PM Modi's address today.

Bachat Utsav Begins Tomorrow

The implementation of new GST rates on September 22, coincides with the beginning of Navratri, a Hindu festival which is celebrated with huge joy and fervour across the nation. The festival marks the celebration of different forms of goddess Aadi Shakti. Navratri festival will be followed by Dussehra celebration and then Diwali.

The festive season spirit among Indians will be accentuated by the implementation of next gen GST reforms. The new GST reforms are likely to cut the price of multiple items across segment, whether they are related to grocery, electronic appliances., automobiles, dairy products, or home electronic items.

"I remember, when in 2014 the country gave me the responsibility of the PM's post, an international newspaper printed an interesting example. The article mentioned the problems faced by a company. The company said that sending its product to Hyderabad, which is 570 km away from Bengaluru, was very difficult. They preferred to first send their products from Bengaluru to Europe and then bring them back from Europe to Hyderabad," said PM Modi on Sunday.

PM Urges Indians To Opt FOr Swadeshi Products

In his address on Sunday, PM Modi urged Indians to opt for products which are 'Made in India'. He made a strong pitch for promoting 'swadeshi' goods and asserted that the next generation GST reforms will accelerate India's growth story, increase ease of doing business and attract more investors.

While underlining the benefits of GST rate cut, PM Modi stressed all states will be equal stakeholders in the development race and urged them to give pace to manufacturing with 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' and swadeshi campaigns in mind.

"On the first day of Navratri, the country is going to take an important and big step for Atmanirbhar Bharat. With the sunrise tomorrow, the next generation GST reforms will come into effect. A 'GST bachat utsav (savings festival)' will begin tomorrow. "You will be able to buy things you like more easily. The poor, middle class, neo middle class, youths, farmers, women, traders and shopkeepers will benefit from this," he said. In this season of festivals, everyone's happiness will increase, Modi said.

He congratulated all on the next generation GST reforms. "These reforms will accelerate India's growth story, increase ease of doing business and attract more investors," Modi said. When India took a step towards GST reforms in 2017, a new beginning was made to script history, he said. He said GST realised the 'one nation-one tax' dream. Modi highlighted how the web of taxes and tolls had created hardships for businesses and consumers. Citing income tax exemption on earnings up to Rs 12 lakh and GST reforms, he said it is a "double bonanza" for the poor, neo-middle class, and middle class.
