Nirmala Sitharaman To Start Pre-Budget Meeting With Stakeholders Today; What To Expect?
The Ministry of Finance is set to continue its pre-Budget consultations for the Union Budget 2026-27. These discussions, involving industry groups and social-sector stakeholders, will take place from November 18 to November 26 The aim is to gather insights and expectations from various sectors as the preparation for next year's Budget gains momentum.
On November 18, the Ministry will kick off a series of meetings with representatives from key economic sectors. The initial day will feature back-to-back sessions with capital-market participants, startup founders, and manufacturing sector representatives. This initiative is part of a broader effort by the ministry to collect valuable input from sectors that have been particularly active throughout the year.

Sector-Specific Consultations
The following day, November 19, will see consultations with stakeholders from the banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) sector. This will be followed by discussions with representatives from the information technology industry. On November 20, hospitality, tourism, and labour representatives are scheduled to meet with the Finance Minister.
Infrastructure, energy, and urban development stakeholders will have their turn on November 21. These meetings are designed to ensure that diverse sectoral perspectives are considered in shaping the upcoming Budget. The final session on November 26 will involve internal officers and social-sector representatives, concluding this phase of talks.
Initial Meetings and Key Focus Areas
The first round of pre-Budget meetings took place last week with leading economists and micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman led these discussions. Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran and senior officers from the Department of Economic Affairs were present at these sessions.
The focus was on macroeconomic priorities, growth strategy, and fiscal planning for the coming year. A separate consultation was held with MSME stakeholders. Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary joined senior officials from the MSME Ministry in addressing credit access, compliance reforms, and specific needs of this sector.
With multiple rounds of consultations underway, it is anticipated that the Ministry of Finance will integrate feedback from these discussions into the framework for the Union Budget 2026-27. By engaging with various sectors comprehensively, the ministry aims to craft a Budget that reflects diverse economic interests.
