NHAI Launches Road Widening Project to Improve Traffic Flow from Dhaula Kuan to Delhi Airport
The NHAI has commenced a road widening project from Dhaula Kuan to Delhi Airport, expanding the carriageway from two lanes to four. The initiative aims to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance pedestrian safety with new infrastructure and environmental measures.
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) announced plans to expand the Limited Height Subway near Gurugram from two lanes to four. This expansion at Subroto Park Air Force Station aims to ease traffic between Dhaula Kuan and Delhi Airport. The project addresses congestion issues on Parade Road underpass, where traffic is currently restricted towards Gurugram from Delhi.

To facilitate this road widening, NHAI is relocating a drain, peripheral road, and parts of the Air Force Station building. The project is anticipated to be completed in approximately six months. Additionally, a new foot overbridge will be constructed near Subroto Park Air Force Station at the start of the RTR flyover. This will improve pedestrian safety and connectivity.
Infrastructure and Environmental Enhancements
The project includes upgrading the drainage system for efficient rainwater disposal. Environmental sustainability is also a focus, with plans for tree transplantation and using anti-smoke guns and water sprinklers to reduce pollution during construction. These measures aim to minimise environmental impact while enhancing infrastructure.
Traffic management during construction will involve traffic marshals, tow-away cranes, and safety cones at the site. These efforts are designed to ensure smooth traffic flow on the National Highway during the project's implementation. Such measures are crucial for maintaining order and safety amidst ongoing construction activities.
Benefits for Commuters and Residents
According to NHAI, widening this section will significantly improve infrastructure and transportation in the National Capital Region. Enhanced connectivity between Delhi and Gurugram will benefit both commuters and residents. The project promises to streamline travel and reduce congestion in this busy corridor.
This initiative reflects a commitment to improving urban infrastructure while considering environmental impacts. By addressing current bottlenecks and planning for future growth, NHAI aims to enhance overall connectivity in the region. The project underscores the importance of sustainable development in urban planning.
