The nine-day auspicious festival of Navratri is going to commence from September 22 across India. This Navratri is called Shardiya Navratri, where devotees worship and celebrate Goddess Durga and her nine forms. Navratri is among the most popular monsoon and autumn festivals. During these nine days, devotees hold Durga Puja and celebrate the festival with the joy of Garba, a popular traditional dance that is only performed during Garba.

Navratri 2025: Ghatsthapana Muhurat
The Ghatsthapana muhurat is meant worshipping Maa Shailputri form of Goddess Durga on Day 1.
Shailaputri, is the daughter of the Mountain King Himavat, and is a manifestation and form of the Hindu mother goddess Mahadevi, as a form of goddess Parvati. She is the first Navadurga venerated during the first day of Navratri, and is a reincarnation of Goddess Sati, as per Wikipedia.

Navratri 2025 Rituals:
The celebration of Navratri varies from state to state in India. However, the first three days of the festival is focused upon the aspects of goddess Durga, while the mid-three days focuses on goddess Lakshmi, and the final three days is focused on goddess Sarasvati.
Also, the celebration varies from devotees to devotees as well. Some devotees prefer fasting throughout the nine days of the festival, or adopting a strict vegetarian diet or refraining from alcohol or certain habits and spices. While majority celebrate the festival with dance such as garba and dandiya.
In many cities, apart from puja or rituals, the festival is celebrated with public concerts for garba, recitations, plays related to these goddess and their true significance and fairs. Among many popular ritual is also Kanya Puja, where nine young girls adorned in the attires of the nine goddess, are worshipped by foot washing rituals, offering of food and new clothing.

The word Navratri comes from Sanskrit-'Nav' meaning nine, 'Ratri' meaning nights-representing a nine-night festival dedicated to Goddess Durga in her nine distinct forms. Navratri commemorates Goddess Durga's victory over the demon Mahishasura, highlighting the message that good always triumphs over evil.
