Amidst the ongoing heavy rainfall in Mumbai, IndiGo and Akasa Air have advised passengers to plan their journeys in advance. The airlines have highlighted waterlogging on key routes to the airport, which could lead to delays. Passengers are encouraged to check flight statuses before leaving for the airport.

Weather Alerts and Traffic Disruptions
The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for Mumbai, predicting continuous heavy rain throughout the day. This follows a red alert issued earlier for extremely heavy rainfall, with some areas receiving over 200 mm of rain. The weather conditions have resulted in significant waterlogging and traffic disruptions across the city.
Both airlines shared advisories on their official X handles, urging travellers to stay informed about their flights. IndiGo mentioned that its teams are actively assisting customers during this period. Akasa Air also noted potential traffic congestion in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Goa, and Pune due to adverse weather conditions.
Impact on Air Travel
The persistent rain has led to severe waterlogging at major locations like Gandhi Market, Kings Circle, SCLR Bridge, and Malad Subway. These conditions have affected air services as well, with reports of 15 go-arounds and two diversions. Airlines such as SpiceJet have also issued similar advisories to passengers.
Apart from Mumbai, neighbouring districts like Thane, Raigad, and Palghar are also under a rain warning today. The IMD has indicated that Maharashtra might continue experiencing heavy rainfall until August 21.
Advice for Travellers
IndiGo's advisory specifically mentions that waterlogging on crucial airport routes could cause delays. They recommend checking flight status via their app or website before heading out. Akasa Air advises passengers to allocate extra travel time to ensure timely arrival at the airport.
Traffic snarls were notably observed on the Western Expressway near Vile Parle due to the downpour. The airlines' advisories aim to help passengers navigate these challenges by planning ahead and staying updated on flight information.
The situation remains challenging as Mumbai grapples with continuous rainfall affecting daily life and travel plans. Passengers are urged to remain cautious and make necessary arrangements for their journeys during this period.
