Ladki Bahin Yojana: Amid speculations around the future of Ladki Bahin Yojana, the Maharashtra government has specified that the women's welfare scheme will not be stopped and is further committed to creating one crore 'Lakhpati Didis'.
"Some people claimed that the Ladki Bahin scheme will be scrapped. Our sisters should not believe them. We won't just stop at providing ₹1,500. We are starting women-led credit societies in villages, which will provide employment opportunities to women," news agency PTI quoted Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis as saying on Wednesday.

Will Maharashtra Govt Stop Ladki Bahin Yojana?
The Maharashtra government is committed to empowering women through the 'Ladki Bahin' programme, aiming to create one crore 'Lakhpati Didis' who will earn ₹1 lakh annually. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced this on September 17, 2025. The initiative includes setting up women-led credit societies in villages to provide employment opportunities for women.
During the launch of the 'Mukhyamantri Samruddha Panchayat Raj Abhiyan' at Kingaon in Phulambri taluka, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Fadnavis emphasised the importance of village development for Maharashtra's prosperity. He stated that progress is not possible unless villages and their residents thrive.
Fadnavis highlighted that these initiatives aim to make women self-reliant and capable of providing jobs to others. Additionally, schemes for Dalit and Adivasi communities will be included under this campaign. The government intends to award ₹250 crore to well-performing villages through this abhiyan.
The state has previously developed model villages through the 'Gram Samruddhi Abhiyan'. Now, it aims to transform 28,000 gram panchayats and 40,000 villages into model villages. This effort involves public participation along with government and CSR funds.
The campaign also focuses on creating clean and green villages through plantation drives and ensuring access to clean water via government schemes and community involvement. Employment opportunities will be generated by integrating MGNREGA with other government initiatives.
Village-level projects such as constructing Anganwadis, roads, water tanks, and deepening drains will be executed using MNREGA funds and other government schemes. Fadnavis mentioned that this campaign would strengthen village groups by launching a scheme to boost village-level societies capable of conducting 17 types of businesses.
