The Kerala Local Body Elections 2025 begin today, and the state government has officially declared public holidays on December 9 and December 11 for smooth polling operations across Kerala.

The notification from the government and the State Election Commission (SEC Kerala) states that all government offices, public-sector institutions, schools, colleges, universities, and educational centres will remain closed in the districts where voting is scheduled.
Private and commercial establishments have been instructed to provide mandatory paid leave so that every eligible voter can participate in the Kerala election 2025 without work-related restrictions. This public holiday in Kerala is being declared to increase the voter turnout during elections.

The official Kerala government order stated that public holidays in Kerala will be applied only in the districts voting on that particular polling date. Holiday declared in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod due to phase 2 of elections
Polling in all districts will take place from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, as per Kerala election polling booth timings.

Open Today
- Essential services including hospitals, pharmacies, emergency care, police, fire services, water and power services
- KSRTC buses, public transport, and essential travel
- Hotels, restaurants, and tourism establishments (depending on district-level instructions)
- Local retail shops may remain open but must allow employees to step out to vote.

Before heading to the polling booth, voters should confirm their registration through the SEC Kerala Voter Search portal on sec.kerala.gov.in. The website allows users to verify their details via name, EPIC number, SEC ID, district, or ward.
For those unable to access the internet, printed Kerala voters lists are available at panchayat offices, municipal offices, taluk offices, and polling stations.
