Karnataka Weather In Red, Orange Alerts: Heavy Rains Prediction, Bengaluru Reeling; Are Schools Closed?

Karnataka Weather Update On August 19: The state of Karnataka is likely to continue on recording heavy to very heavy rainfalls on Tuesday as well, as deep depression emerges in the northwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal. Many districts in Karnataka have declared school holidays including universities on August 19.

Karnataka Weather Today:

As per IMD, heavy to very heavy rain with sustained wind (40-50 kmph) likely to occur at one or two places over Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru districts.

Also, heavy rains with sustained wind (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur at one or two places over Davanagere district. Additionally, light to moderate rain with sustained wind (40-50 kmph) is likely to occur at most places over Ballari, Bengaluru (Rural), Bengaluru (Urban), Chamarajanagara, Chikkaballapura, Chitradurga, Hassan, Kodagu, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Ramanagara, Tumakuru and Vijayanagara districts.

Further, IMD has issued a red alert in areas like Udupi, Uttara Kannada, Chikkamagaluru and Shivamogga. While an orange alert is issued in Dakshina Kannada.

Deep Depression:

According to latest update by IMD, the Depression over northwest westcentral & adjoining Bay of Bengal and north Andhra Pradesh - south Odisha coasts moved slowly northwestwards with a speed of 3 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centerd at 2330 hours of IST of yesterday, the 18 August 2025 over the same region, near latitude 19.0°N and longitude 84.9°E, about 30 km south of Gopalpur (Odisha) and 110 km northeast of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh).

"It is likely to continue to move northwestwards and cross south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts close to south of Gopalpur during forenoon of 19th August, 2025," IMD's note said.

Bengaluru Weather Update:

In Bengaluru, it is generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain is likely. Sustained wind with wind speed (40-50 kmph) is likely. Maximum & Minimum temperatures are very likely to be around 25°C and 20°C, respectively.

Fishermen Warning:

Furthermore, IMD has issued warnings to fishermen due to squally weather with wind speed reaching (40-50) kmph gusting to 60 kmph likely to prevail along and off the Karnataka coast on 19th and 20th August 2025.

Accordingly, IMD advised fishermen not to venture into the above sea areas during the above-mentioned period.

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS IN KARNATAKA:

Various districts of Karnataka have declared school holidays on August 19. These are --- Belgaum, Kodagu, Hassan, Bidar, Uttara Kannada, Dharwad, Chikkamagaluru, and Udupi.

In Udupi, government, adided and private Anganwadi, primary, secondary, and P.E. College are closed on August 19.

Also, a widespread holiday is announced for every Anganwadi centers, primary and high schools in Belgaum, Bailahongala, Kittur, Khanapura, Ramadurga, Savadatti, Chikkodi, and Hukkeri taluks in Belgaum region.

Even schools and pre-university colleges are closed on August 19 on Belgaum, Bailhongal, Kittur, Khanapura, Ramadurga and Savadatti taluks.

Similar holidays are declared in Kodagu district.
