Jagdeep Dhankar, the vice president of India, has resigned from his post, citing health reasons. Surprisingly, he resigned after chairing the first monsoon session in the Parliament. Being the vice president of India, Dhankar was also on the payroll. The next procedure would be to appoint a suitable candidate to take over the vice president role.
Why Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar Resigned:
Dhankar announced he would step down from the VP role in India, with immediate effect on July 21, as he is prioritizing his healthcare. He cited medical reasons as the main cause of his resignation.
In his letter to President Droupadi Murmu, he said, "To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as Vice President of India, effective immediately, by Article 67(a) of the Constitution."
He exited hours after chairing the first day of Rajya Sabha's monsoon session for 2025. He was scheduled to chair pivotal sessions, including Business Advisory Committee on July 22 as the Rajya Sabha chairman.
Not just that, he was also scheduled to make a one-day visit to Jaipur, Rajasthan, on July 23, 2025. During his visit, the Vice-President was expected to interact with the newly elected committee members of the Confederation of Real Estate Developers' Association of India (CREDAI) Rajasthan at Rambagh Palace, Jaipur.
Jagdeep Dhankhar Salary:
As Dhankhar was a constitutional officer, he received a monthly salary and allowances.
His monthly salary is reportedly around Rs 4 lakh. These include perks like government accommodation, medical facilities, travel allowance, staff and secretarial assistance and security facility (Z category security).
Taking these into consideration, Dhankar's weekly salary stood at Rs 92,307. While per day he earned Rs 18,461.

Who Is Jagdeep Dhankhar?
Born on May 8, 1951, Jagdeep Dhankhar is an Indian politician and lawyer who served as the vice president of India from 2022 to 2025. Earlier, he was West Bengal's governor from 2019 to 2022. Also, he was a Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in the Chandra Shekhar ministry from 1990 to 1991, and a Lok Sabha member from 1989 to 1991. He was also a Member of Rajasthan's Legislative Assembly from 1993 to 1998.
Dhankhar has been part of major political parties in India including the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian National Congress (INC), and the Janata Dal (JD). At the time of resignation, he belonged to the BJP.
His journey with the BJP began in 2003, and he was also a member of the party's campaign committee during the 2008 assembly elections. In 2016, he headed the BJP's law and legal affairs department, as per Wikipedia.
His education included graduation in B.Sc. (Honors) Physics from Maharaja's College, Jaipur, affiliated to the University of Rajasthan. He also did 1978-1979 LLB from the University of Rajasthan.
Since 1990 Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar had been practicing primarily in the Supreme Court and his focus area of litigation have been in the field of Steel, Coal, Mining and International Commercial Arbitration, amongst others. He has appeared in various High Courts in the country and was the senior-most designated Senior Advocate of the State till assuming the Office of the Governor on 30 July, 2019.
