Iran Israel Tension: India Plans Land Route Evacuation for Over 10,000 Stranded Indian Citizens from Iran

Iran has offered a solution for Indian students stranded due to closed airspace. They can now cross into Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan via land borders. This comes as India considers an evacuation plan for its nationals in Iran amidst escalating tensions.

In response to New Delhi's request, Tehran has agreed to provide safe passage for over 10,000 students stuck in the country. The situation remains tense as Israel continues its strikes on major Iranian cities.

Indian Embassy's Efforts

The Indian Embassy in Tehran is actively monitoring the security situation. They are working closely with students to ensure their safety. Some students have been relocated to safer areas within Iran with the embassy's assistance. Other options are also being explored, with further updates expected soon.

A recent attack near Tehran University of Medical Sciences' dormitory injured two Indian students from Kashmir. Both are stable and have been moved to Ramsar for safety by the university.

Student Appeals and Concerns

Many Indian students in Iran have urged authorities for evacuation before the situation worsens. Imtisal Mohidin, a 22-year-old MBBS student from Jammu and Kashmir, shared their ordeal of sleepless nights due to nearby explosions.

"I woke up at 2:30 am on Friday to loud explosions and rushed to the basement. We haven't slept since," Imtisal told ANI. The student studies at Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran, which hosts over 350 Indian students.

Political Calls for Action

The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) has called on External Affairs Minister A Jaishankar to arrange evacuations for Union Territory students amid intensifying Tel Aviv-Tehran conflict.

JKPCC president Tariq Hameed Karra tweeted, "Urgent action needed by @DrSJaishankar to evacuate J&K students studying in Iran amid escalating tensions and volatile situation. Prioritise their safety, provide comprehensive support, and ensure their swift, secure return home."

Support from Political Parties

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has advised stranded Kashmiri students to contact the Indian embassy in Tehran for assistance. PDP leader Iltija Mufti posted contact details on social media for those needing help.

"For Kashmiri students stranded in Iran, please leave a WhatsApp message or call on these Indian Embassy (@India_in_Iran) numbers +98 9128109115 and +98 9128109109," she wrote.

Hundreds of students from Jammu and Kashmir are enrolled in professional courses like medicine across various Iranian universities. The ongoing conflict has heightened concerns about their safety and well-being.
